Due to the flood damage at Hilton Coliseum, all ISU home VB matches will be played at Ames High this season. ISU averaged 2700 fans per match last season and the Ames gym only holds around 2000, so it'll be packed.

A packed gym is not all bad for the home team. Hope they can get Hilton up and running by basketball season.

Was there no bigger venue in Ames for VB? No civic auditorium? What will the basketball teams do?

Hardly seems fair to the team or to the fans to reduce capacity so much.

Ames is only around 50,000 people including the 25,000+ ISU students, so there aren't a lot of other venues in town. I bet the only venues in town that can hold more than the AHS gym (2000 capacity) are Jack Trice Stadium (55000 -- outdoor) and Stephens Auditorium (2700 -- not an athletics facility; more of a concert hall type of auditorium).

If you want anything bigger than the AHS gym, you'd probably have to go to Des Moines: Wells Fargo Arena (17000), Vets Auditorium (16000), or the Knapp Center (7000 -- Drake's gym). All are around 35 miles from Hilton.

For basketball, there's going to be a huge effort to get Hilton ready for the start of the season. ISU built a nice new BB practice facility prior to last season (Sukup Basketball Complex), so WBB and MBB practices will not be impacted.

In the meantime, the VB squad has a nice facility to practice in as well. Next door to Sukup is West Towne Courts (http://alliowaattack.com/facility-update), the home of the All-Iowa Attack boys and girls AAU BB teams. They are letting ISU VB use their courts for practices. The WBB staff cleared out the WBB manager offices at Sukup and are letting the VB coaches use that as office space temporarily.

This just stinks! I love going to the vb games and am not a season ticket holder, but I am going to become one just to see a few games. I hope they sell out season tickets. Hey fans they're only $35. Go State!!!

If I lived closer to Ames, I would buy a season ticket. I'm over 3 hours away.

On the ESPNU broadcast of the Nebraska/Iowa State game they said 1,300 tickets in the 2,000 seat gym are season tickets. That's a pretty good number of season tickets for a volleyball team.

They might have sold more, but that was the limit. They have to have some reserved for students with olympic sports season tickets, little clone club members and their parents, and the opposing team. Once the match is about to start, they see how many people have shown up and sell single-game tickets to anyone waiting outside until the gym is full. There are no guaranteed single-game tickets available.
