Excellent. Great job Voepel! The people who determine these things should do research and go beyond the media and SID generated hype and look at who really should be on that list.

I was so surprised when researching Creighton prior to Tech's game early in the season that Christy Neneman was the MVP of the MVC last year (as a soph) instead of Carla Bennett who gets lots of pub. Neneman is a blue collar player that does everything for the Jays. Carla Bennett is a fine player too, but should she be on the "list" if she is not the best player in her own conference? (Hey, Spanheimer from the Blue Jays ain't chopped liver either.)

One thing in wcbb history that always puzzled me was how Karen Jennings of Nebraska won the Wade trophy in 1993. Jennings was a fine player, a first team All American, and had outstanding academic success for which she was recognized. But Sheryl Swoopes was pretty good that year too.

That pretty much settles it for me. If Billie Moore and the rest of the Wade committee are no more concerned about their actions than that, then they all need to step down and let people who really CARE about women's basketball take over.

All year long I've been seeing hits taken on the sport of women's basketball. Broadcasts of games are down at least 10-20%, and journalists' articles must be down more than that.

On top of that, the WNBA is under attack from the powered money intestests of NBA basketball, Title IX is about to (probably) take a hit from an administration that apparently believes that regressive policies in regards to women's athletics are a positive thing, and ESPN and everybody's brother talks up UConn's latest win over an overmatched opponent while scarely acknowledging that Tennessee just solidified their standing in the SEC by defeating LSU.

What's next? I'm worried.

If only there were a lot more Voepel's http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif.....I typically listen to the weekly coaches teleconference and the 2 constants are Voepel and Mike Jones.

I really like Susan Harmon, who wrote about Iowa State...is she still writing? Seems like when I looked at the paper she wrote for, she didn't have any bylines.

Susan Harman quit the Ames paper. Don't know the details, but her writing will be missed greatly... =(

The last, cryptic word from the Ames Tribune regarding Susan Harman:

"And speaking of great journalists, I'm sorry to report that sports editor Susan Harman has left The Tribune to pursue other opportunities. We are aggressively working to fill the position. Harman served for 5 1/2 years as sports editor and I think no one has given more to the newspaper. Her dedication, talent and high standards have made the Tribune's sports section what it is. We will miss her."

I email very few writers of articles, but I did email Susan Harmon a couple of years back. She did an incredible job covering
Iowa State and Big XII Women's Basketball....I'm sorry to see she's no longer involved in that aspect.
