I was looking for info on today's ORU-SDSU Summit Championship and ran across this. I figured some here would be interested and I certainly wouldn't want JacknCy to miss it. It's a very entertaining story. http://www.argusleader.com/article/20100225/SPORTS0202/2250303/Eleventh-heaven
Maria is one of eleven children!
When the whole horde is home, people have to eat in shifts. The washing machine is in constant motion, handling maybe six loads on the average day. There are generally two or three kids per bedroom; Maria didn't have her own space until her third year of college.
"It's quiet, peaceful," she said of the current set-up. "I have my own clothes to wear, and I don't have to find which sibling has my shoes."
Johnston has entered the family fray more than once, having successfully recruited both Maria and Gabby, a senior point guard at Worthington High. (On a related note, Anastasia is better as a seventh- grader than either of them, according to Mark.) The coach described the scene as organized chaos.
Sounds like SDSU is going to have at least one more Boever and maybe more doesn't it? :)
The 6-foot-1 post has been an impact player in Brookings for four years, hitting one of the most memorable shots in SDSU history as a true freshman - a controversial buzzer beater at the University of Minnesota - and helping the team to three consecutive NCAA Division I postseasons.
As apt to produce in transition as she is on the block, Boever is on pace to lead the team in scoring for the second time in three years.
She's already in the top 20 in SDSU history for career points (1,252), rebounds (662), blocks (65), free throws (285) and steals (162). That's despite playing through multiple unreported injuries - namely two stress fractures on the same foot as a sophomore. She didn't miss so much as a practice that year.
This season, Boever leads the Jacks (17-10) in minutes, field goals, free throws, points, rebounds and steals, the most consistent contributor in and up-and-down winter.
Here's the info for the game which will be carried on ESPNU at 3PM Central. http://www.argusleader.com/article/20100309/SPORTS0202/3090308/1002/SPORTS Oral Roberts won both regular season matchups, but South Dakota State has been coming on strong of late. Both are very entertaining teams, SDSU with their veteran squad and ORU with their Freshman loaded lineup. Only team leader Senior Janae Voelker and Sophomore Jordan Pyle see significant action outside the Freshmen which includes Kevi Luper and Jaci Bigham, the highest scoring guard duo in the country.
