CU fans concerned about the pont guard position should take comfort in knowing that next year they will have an outstanding freshman at that position in Emily Waner. After tearing up what was at the time the number one ranked team in the state, Highlands Ranch, she was just as effective last night leading her team to a win over the number three ranked team, Heritage. What's most impressive is that while she destroyed Highlands Ranch with her outside shooting, it was her floor game, assists, steals and defense on the opponents best player, that made the difference yesterday.

Because she focuses so much on getting her teammates easy buckets and her defense, she doesn't get the publicity that some receive, but at USA Basketball this summer she proved herself to be the top point gurard/combo guard west of the Mississippi. Had she not already been committed to CU, she would have been a national elite recruit as well. Next year she will join an excellent transfer, Whitney Law, to bolster CU's backcourt for years to come.

Hey CU Hoops Fan....Welcome to Hoopscoop.

I am also excited about Emily coming to CU, and hope her younger sister Abby follows suit in a couple of years.

Can't wait to see Thunder Ridge play in the State Tourney against this year, and BEAT Highlands Ranch!!

Thanks for posting the info about Emily Waner. I didn't know much about her. I don't get to see detailed stats and I was a bit curious about her since her points totals haven't been all that terrific.

It's good to know she is serious about defense already since any player for Coach Barry has to be that in order to get playing time.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Emily and Abby want to keep the sister act going for a couple more years and that Abby joins Emily at CU.

Emily Waner sounds like an excellent signing. CU appears to have lost the recruiting battles for the big name in-state players over the past few years. Of course, it is hard for any school to beat out UConn who signed Strother and Sherwood.
