Melissa Jones & Jordan Madden--Good News

"... Mulkey said Friday that while Jones’ exact return date remains indefinite, the guard should be back on the court when the Lady Bears open NCAA tournament play. Meanwhile, freshman guard Jordan Madden, who suffered a sprained MCL in her right knee, has progressed quickly through her rehabilitation and could play before the end of the regular season.

“I know this — we will have (Jones) back for the NCAA playoffs,” Mulkey said. “We feel like we will be in the NCAA playoffs now with as many wins as we have. Could we get her before? Possibly. But I do know this — we will have her back for the NCAA playoffs. . . . Jordan Madden’s injury is very promising. They tell me we may have her quickly. We may have her before the Big 12 tournament.” ...

Baylor is running a “Sunday Special” promotion today in which fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four soft drinks for $24.

That's terrific news for Baylor AND for the Big 12.

Ours is a conference that needs to prove that we are all that, and we've fallen a little short of that goal. This would be a good year to do as good as or better than projected, to help silence the naysayers that contend that the Big 12 uses scheduling to build a reputation that doesn't match the true strength of the conference.

I'm tired of hearing it, and very happy that Melissa and Jordan are going to be back for the final phase. And I agree that Baylor is going to be one dangerous team in the tournament.

I agree, Jones and Madden are going to be critical to a good run for Baylor through the post season. Hopefully Mulkey will keep this in mind and not try to rush their return to the court until they are really needed. Wouldn't it be better to wait until the Big 12 Tourney to make sure they have plenty of time to recover from their injuries? Or maybe bring them in for a few minutes in the final game of Big 12 season just to get them on the floor a little before that, but I certainly wouldn't want to risk them in any games before that... ;)

In yesterday's teleconference and today's Waco Trib, Kim said Melissa Jones could play now but will not until the NCAA tournament. No mention of Jordan Madden.

... As Baylor winds up the season, it’s also drawing nearer to the return of Jones, who Mulkey said would definitely play come NCAA tourney time.

“We’re waiting on the day,” [Shanay] Washington said. “Coach keeps saying, ‘Whenever Grandma gets back,’ talking about MJ. ‘We’re going to be good whenever Grandma gets back!’ I’m excited. I can’t wait.” ...
