Congrats to KSU. I'm a Baylor fan too...but it's great to see KSU having such a great year. I went to a clinic Coach Patterson put on at the Final 4 in KC and I've been a fan ever since. Course Kami (even though she played for Texas) is one of ours. It's great to see y'all in Manhattan getting such great fan support..that they have to open up Bramlage.

Thanks for the kind comments Bball Girl. It was a very fun atmosphere but WAY more of a nail biter than the final score indicates. I was hoping that Danielle Crockrom would have a hard time inside and that the KSU zone would frustrate her. I think it did but I am REAL glad we don't have to go to Waco for a rematch.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Coach Patterson when she came to Clay Center, Kansas to watch Nicole Ohlde and Kendra Wecker play high school ball. She does seem to be a very neat person. I also have had some contact with the rest of the staff including especially Coach Sue Sarafini. The kids really seem to respect the whole staff and we are very proud of them. One of the great things about watching Big XII WBB is the chance to see some pretty doggone good coaching.

Bramlage was LOUD and rockin today. The last few minutes of each half the crowd really responded to anything KSU did, and in fact they started getting LOUD before the team really did anything.

I am still too pumped to check out what my all KSU Hoopla! picks did. Right now I don't much care. The kids WON and man were they excited after the game. They were jumping up and down and they saluted the fans all around Bramlege. I am not sure I have ever seen Coach Patterson with a face that happy.

Well, Slap the dog and spit in the fire!! My Lady http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/bu.gif lost. I have to congratulate KSU. I was not at the game but it sounds like they played very well. It was broadcast on a local Waco radio station, but I can not listen to a basketball game on the radio. It drives me nuts! All I did was turn it on to catch the score and turn it off immediately.

Deb Patterson is one of the Big VII coaches that I greatly admire. Having such a young team and playing at the level that they are is impressive.

The Big VII is liable to have such a fruit basket turnover throughout the conference play that it is truly up in the air as to how the teams will finish. KSU will certainly finish MUCH higher than predicted.

Great weekend of basketball.

Congratulations, I certainly underestimated KSU.

With or without bench help, that is a young team that will continue to give the top echelon of the big 12 fits. Tech and even OU need to be wary.

I did listen to it on the radio. Got real tired of hearing , in the background, OOOOOL-DEEE. Also got tired of whistles with fouls on the lady bears -- the anouncers (with green/gold tinted glasses) kept intimating many were uncalled for, especially the first two vs. Crockrom. Don't know. Would love to see a rematch in March when I'll be able to see it in K. C.

One bright spot; J. Stratton came alive offensively. As a Freshman last year she showed tremendous hussle on defense and a good three point shot, but rarely took one. She has been even better on defense again this year but still seemed very reluctant to take a shot. I think KMR had a talk with her; 6 threes and 20 points made this her best offensive outing by far.

KSU should enter the top 15 this week and likely an invite to the NCAAs in March.

The one thing that I saw that concerns me about Kansas State in the long run in the lack of depth. The Wildcats starters accounted for all but 13 minutes of playing time. I realize that in the non-conference season that may not be a problem, but in Big 12 play will Kansas State run out of gas towards the later part of the conference season?

Lack of depth is a problem at guard right now with Hanson and Domenico both seriously limited by injuries. Brie Madden is a quality back up at F/P and can fill in without too much of a loss of productivity. I don't think there are too many post players that can completly fill in for Ohlde. Then again consider how much ISU looses when Welle is out of the game. How about Baylor when Lambert or Crockrom is out? Ther are two main things a coach thinks about when deciding to substitute. One is the quality of the reserves (which I think you are all focusing on) and the other is do the starters need a blow or are they doing fine. I think the rest of you are a lot more worried about K-State's depth than K-State is.

Consider also that KSU has been more productive in the second half of games all year long when you would think fatigue should set in. That was true also in the Baylor game. Baylor looked more gassed at the end than the Wildcats.

KSU has already played in three tourneys with back to back games and been very successful. I will give you this however, the one loss was to Arizona State was on the second day of a three day tourney. And also the teams in those tourneys were not Big XII caliber. It will be interesting to see this play out over the season.

You already know this but Lambert is one terrific ball player. She can really get things done. I also got the feeling that Stratton was just about to break out into star quality play. If we meet again in the tourney she could be a major factor. The other thing that would scare me is if Crockrom gets a little more help up front. We were able to concentrate on her and used up a lot of fouls doing it. Wecker and Mahoney each had 4. Ohlde is graceful and athletic and like Welle, seldom gets in foul trouble. She doesn't look like shes done anything wrong even when she does foul. The foul call on her at the end of the Baylor game was a joke however. She was standing flat footed with her hands straight up and never moved. She looked shocked at the call and then in typical Ohlde fashion just grinned and took her rebounding place along the side of the foul line. Its hard to make her upset.

In refference to Bear Skin's comments about the announcers thinking that Crockrom was called for fouls she did not commit, I think she had a call that was questionable. I could say thats life in the Big 12, but in truth thats life anywhere in basketball. Usually that stuff evens out and doesn't determine the outcaome of the game and I don't think it did in this one. KSU made its 9-0 run on Baylor at the end of the first half with Crockrom in the game.
