UCONN's passing is just great. I thought it was great last season and it seems to be carrying over. They are really putting it to Duke. The streak continues.
Looks like Geno will get this one. I wanted to see him get beat, but it's not going to be today.

Ah shucks - Geno needs a TO - Duke back within 14 with 7+ mins to go. Go Dukies!!!
Oh, I LOVE seeing Alana steal the ball from Diana!!! And then covert a layup!

If Duke would have come from 28 down and won, that would have been something special. They really played so much better in the second half. Maybe a Big XII team will beat UCONN. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif Duke was not having much FUN in the first half. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

Great comeback by Duke - just didn't start the climb soon enough. UConn has a great team, they will be hard to beat this year.

What a great atmosphere for womens basketball. I guarantee that quite a few of those Cameron Crazy-students will be back in the stands for many more womens basketabll games.
I couldn't believe the energy the fans and the Duke players had in the second half. After Duke pulled it within 7, the crowd was going absolutely crazy (sent a little chill down my spine). It's unfortunate that Duke got so far behind, because this could've been even more of a barn-burner.
I can't help but wonder what this game would have been like if Monique Curry would've been on the court for the Devils. Even wirthout her, they are a great team and Alana Beard IS the best player in the nation (maybe the best ever before she graduates).
My other question is how on earth did Lindsay Harding get out of Texas??? She is a phenomenal freshman. She played very well the whole game with 4 broken toes. Erin Grant is outstanding, but I wouldn't want to have to choose between her and Lindsay Harding.

If I recall correctly, Texas & Tech both recruited her. Don't remember who all offered her, but i'm sure Gunter and Summitt did. She is good.
I turned it off when th lead was 27. Disgusted because I had really hoped to see Geno have to sweat one out. For awhile I was thinking UConn belonged in the WNBA. Then I flipped it back to check the score and Alana Beard was picking Turasi's pocket tpo cut it to 13. I watch it until the bitter end. I'll go out on a limb and say that Beard is one of the most intense competitors I have ever seen on a court. She determined that she and Duke were NOT gonna go down like chumps and rose to the occasion like a champion.
I guess there's not much question who's #1 now, and I think every top 20 team now realizes what level of play that is required to win a national title in 2003 and thereafter.
Whatever you think of Auriemma, you have to give him credit for raising the standard of excellence in women's college basketball - he and his teams have changed the way the game is played, as they say - even for coaches like Summitt, Vandeveer, etc. - UConn has gone above and beyond everyone else.
Here's hoping the rest of us can catch up soon.
