It's a dandy in Lawrence...Kansas leads Nebraska 37-35 at half. The Jayhawks are picking their spots well shooting 59% from the field.

Crystal Kemp is decimating Alexa Johnson right now, outscoring Johnson 14-0. Only inspired play by Shah Roberts and Margaret Richards is keeping the lasses close. Jina Johansen is playing awesome tonight it seems. Six points in the first half. She has hit both her shot attempts in the first half.

I hope Alexa snaps out of it in the second half. She's been kinda in the back.

Burras hit the first free throw and Nebraska takes a timeout..:04 left game tied at 64...Griechaly had a chance to put the game away with free throws and true to form, she misses the first one. Burras got the rebound at Griech fouled her with a one point lead.

Burras hit the second http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/frown.gif, and Laura Pilkowski gets its stolen by Crystal Kemp and has to foul her. You can start dinner, mama. This one is over http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/frown.gif

Once again, our inability to do the fundamental things killed us on both sides of the ball.

Crystal Kemp made complete idiots out of all our forwards with 26 tonight. She really played well.

Our forwards were bad defensively tonight, and Alexa Johnson was invisible for 35 minutes of the game. She played well down the stretch, but we need her at the party sooner.

But Cepero? WHY PUT HER IN THE GAME IN THE FINAL MINUTES? She took four shots in the final four minutes, including free throw and SHE MISSED THEM ALL!

This is two straight games where the Huskers have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Chipper, your team is getting more competitive by the game. We both know that they aren't going to challenge for the title this year, but that win is going to come soon - very soon!

Hang on, bud!

How can you say same old sorry Huskers? They played their hearts out and darn near pulled off the miracle?

"They played their hearts out"

And they wasted their effort with their inability. Would you tolerate the same play from Texas Tech?

Comments about "playing with heart" can be complimentary but they can also be condescending. "Poor imcompetent dears, what else do they have to play with?" I think Chipper is showing a kind of respect to his team by continuing to expect and demand a certain standard of play when most others have simply dismissed the Cornhuskers except to put a "W", in advance, in ink, next to Nebraska on our team's calendar. He's not expecting the Cornhuskers to win the Big 12 championship.

...I'm reminded how Coach Sharp described the Sooners this year
they don't rebuild, they reload...in light of some comments about how OU has a young team and the expectations are lower...blah, blah, blah. While Coach Coale's expectations may be different for this team...this team ain't playing like they have low expectations of themselves. You won't hear them say...oh we lost to Texas and Tech, but we are rebuilding this year..... No...they play like they knew they can win every game!

I have to agree with Chipper and carolann here...the Huskers have some crummy breaks this year but they need to have high expectations of themselves and believe with their play (not just their hearts) that they can and will compete in every game they play.

Just look at K-State...3 years ago. Did anyone expect them to have the kind of seasons they have had in the last two years. Yes..the team and the coaches had those expectations...they knew they could compete well in this league. Look at what they have achieved.

The Huskers must go out there and play like they belong in this conference..that they can compete every game and that they can win every game...they've got the skills and the coaching. I know Tech doesn't take Kansas or Nebraska or anyone for granted this year and I can't imagine that any of our smart coaches will do so..

I was by no means denigrating the Nebraska team with my post. What I meant was that for the last two or more years Chipper has been fulminating about the lack of heart and fight the Huskers showed. To me, the ultimate sin is not playing as hard as you can to win. Talent is not the issue. When the Lady Raiders do not play with heart and determination, I am not satisfied with their performance even when they win by twenty or more points.

It seemed to me from the running commentary that the Nebraska team was giving everything they had and they lost. That is a lot different from losing through lack of effort. Therefore they are not the "Same old sorry Huskers", which , by the way, has been edited out of Chipper's post. They lost because of a fundamental mistake... not a good thing, but not as bad as lack of heart and effort.

I agree with elfdenmom, these definately are not the same old sorry Huskers. They have become a team that I can truly get behind and support. This season I am proud to be a Husker fan again.

For the last couple of years Nebraska has had talent to burn and they have played like crap. Last year the Huskers played gutless, heartless, and uninspired basketball and were rarely competitive despite their talent.

This year's team may be down on numbers and a little short on talent, but they play hard, scrappy basketball. After nearly every game this year NU has left it all out on the court, and that in itself is something to be proud of.

I feel like even though the team is losing, Connie and the girls are laying a solid foundation based on hard work and passion. This program is moving on up. I think Margaret Richards deciding to come back for another season on her own free will really symbolizes the positive strides that are being made here in Lincoln. Richards said that she didn't want her career to end on a season like this meaning that she doesn't expect to lose next year. It may be hard to see at this time, but Connie Yori is slowly and surely installing a positive and winning attitude in this program, and I think the future looks bright for Nebraska...

Meanwhile, this season isn't over. The girls have played as hard as they can the last two games and that's all you can ask for. They can't get caught up in the 'what if's' of the ISU and KU games. All you do is work harder to be better prepared when the Jayhawks come to Lincoln next month.

Trust me, we will http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

No one knows better than an OU fan the places a program can go with the right coach.

And with that said........this was my 2500th post.

"The girls have played as hard as they can the last two games.

I never say they didn't play hard. And yes, this team is giving everything the have most games (they kinda went back to quitting a little against Colorado and Missouri).

My gripe is that while they are playing as hard as they can, they aren't playing as well as they can. Fundamental breakdowns have dogged this team through every loss, and in the last two those breakdowns came at a price of two wins.

Losing a frustrating enough, but its doubly frustrating when a team beats itself and in the last two games, the lasses have found ways to lose instead of win.

When we stop doing that, that is when we'll start seeing positive results, and maybe in a couple of years the lasses will start serving beautiful cold dishes of revenge on the entire conference.

But I must say, this is a darn sight better than last year!

I was one of about 50 Husker fans in attendance last night and thought the Huskers played pretty damn good. I was disappointed in the outcome but proud of the team never giving up and playing 40 minutes especially coming back from ten down a couple of times. Give Kansas credit they made the plays when it counted.

The Huskers played some pretty good defense and executed their offense fairly well. The problem was not being able to knock down more open shots. No sour grapes intended but I went hoarse complaining about the 23 foul shots KU got to our 7.

I whole heartedly agree with HuskerFan86 who says "enjoy it now we won't be down for long" And our comeback starts Saturday against Okie St.

Come on KU fan support the Jayhawks 730 fans for a Big 12 game isn't good.
