KSU wins by two. What a tremendous game! Both teams played great basketball. What a shame someone had to lose. I believe the score was 71 to 69, but the lead changed hands so many times that I got dizzy trying to keep up.

Yeah, it is a little sad to have my team come so close and fall just short of upsetting KSU on their home floor. I really can't be to upset at losing by 2 points to Kansas State in Manhattan. I'm proud of the Longhorns. Jody Conradt was positive in her post game comments. As she said, not many teams will come in and beat KSU in Manhattan. She thought the Longhorns did a lot right and can improve in the areas where the team fell short. She believes in the talent and the attitude of this year's team.

KSU? Ohlde is a great player. Wecker may the POY. Mahoney is this year's Tracy Gahan. An afterthought when people talk about KSU, Mahoney is an excellent player.

This WAS a great game! I thought both teams played extremely hard and unfortunately someone had to lose. I continue to be impressed with UT's physical defensive play and how it throws teams off. KSU, again a great team, very balanced, but Wecker is my POY pick thus far. She's outstanding and I love to watch her play!

Yes, it was disappointing not getting the win today, but to come within 2 points of beating KSU in their sold-out arena is pretty darn good! I'm also very proud of this Texas team.

Texas keeps improving with each game. Our defense is tough & is getting better & better. We missed a few too many buckets today where we got good looks but just couldn't get in the hoop. Great effort by the whole team, particularly Stacy & Heather.

Wecker is amazing! Congrats to KSU.

Congrats to KSU. As great teams do, they found a way to win. And, they are a great team, with great fan support too.

I don't have to like it though.

Agreed. If I had to say right now Wecker would be my POY.

Good game from Texas. But, not as good as they can be. This team is still getting better.

That was the best Big XII women's basketball I've seen all season....wow. I was amazed at how engrossed I was that when I looked at the clock in the 1st half...there were 2 minutes left.

The announcers kept saying that they though Koehn's three at the 3 1/2-minute mark was the "game-breaker"....I didn't agree. Yes, it got the crowd into it, but I thought the "game-breaker" was at the 3 minute mark when Megan Mahoney shot from outside, got her own rebound, shot and missed, rebounded, shot and made it...and even then, Texas was never out of this game. I was really impressed with how well Texas played today; given their pre-conference road woes.

I thought I was making a mistake by putting both Stephens and Wecker on my Hoopla team......nope http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif I sure do love watching
Kendra Wecker play.

It was a fun game to watch. Both teams showed me alot with some impressive players. We were cheering for Jamie and Texas to win! I thought Texas lost the game with Stephens in foul trouble and they took some ill advised shots in the last 5 minutes. Texas not having a timeout on the last possession hurt them too.

Both teams should go far very in the tourney. I would be worried if either one of them were sent to Stanford.

This WAS a great game to watch today. Unfortunately, my team lost but they showed great "game", especially on the road and it easily could have gone either way - both teams played very very well. Congrats to KSU, if TX doesn't win the Big 12, I hope it is KSU.

WOW!!!! What a game!!! VERY impressive games by Stephens, Schreiber and Carey. And boy is Wecker impressive. Texas had a wonderful opportunity to win this game and just could not pull it out. That 11 to 0 run at the end of the game hurt. I was at the Baylor and Tech games and watched this one on TV. I don't think I have ever seen a team miss as many 2 to 4 footers as Texas has in the last three games. If we can just convert and little better on the offensive end, the sky is the limit. Great game ladies. HOOKEM!!!

I agree that this was the game of the season so far! Two heavyweights slugging it out toe-to-toe inside, with just enough guard play to keep it interesting.

Wecker is my choice for player of the year! Since when can any 5'11" player do such things? Phelesha Whaley on afterburner!

Stephens was as impressive as I've seen her - a truck driver's body with surgeon's hands!

And Schreiber gets my vote for most improved player in the conference. She has really expanded from a perimeter player to a genuine POWER forward!

This may have been for the conference championship - if K-State gets Koehn healthy enough to play the whole game, they will be virtually unstoppable.

Great game all around, great game to watch. Extremely impressive clutch performance by Jamie Carey, showing (if anyone still doubted) that she really has made a terrific comeback.

And regarding Kendra ("Kill-and-Wreck-her") Wecker's athleticism, I wanted to remind everyone that she is currently ranked as the fourth-best javelin thrower in the United States -- junior and senior combined -- in an event where she probably has ten to fifteen years of improvement still to come. http://www.trackandfieldnews.com/lists/2002/us_out_w.html

Looking forward to seeing her and her crew at Hilton Wednesday night.

Let me add my congratulations to the Wildcats. These two teams have certainly treated the Big XII fans to a couple of great regular season battles these last two years! This is a great rivalry in the making (well, I guess my 'Horns will have to win one or two before we can call it a rivalry, huh?)

I am very proud of the Texas effort and heart today. I become more and more encouraged with each passing game. We are definately competing for the conference title and I truly believe we are capable of making a deep run in the tourney.

Swok, I think you hit the nail on the head regarding the Mahoney play. Overall, I think K-State did get too many second chances from offensive rebounds today. But with players like Wecker, Ohlde, and Mahoney it's hard to stop. Second chances for K-State and a few instances of poor shot selection from the 'Horns was the difference.

Hope we meet again in Big "D".

First, SALUTE to Texas!! What a game to watch. I agree very much with the comparison to a heavy wieght championship boxing match. Those two teams went toe to toe for the whole game.

Both teams can play better. Both teams were so wound up that some simple things like easy shots became hard shots. Both teams left it all on the floor as far as effort. Last year double OT in Austin. Now this game. The rematch in Dallas if it occurs, should be worth the cost of attending the tourney in and of itself. I was pretty spent myself by the end of the game. I can't imagine the energy expended by the players.

I was once again impressed by Stacy Stephens. With her and Ohlde in the middle Team USA had a heck of a foundation. My first look at Jamie Carey left me very impressed. Her three at the end was huge and showed her self confidence as well as her skill. She is a great addition to the Longhorns. [note to Carey though, if Wecker needs to be run over please leave that sort of work to Stephens. You scared me girl. I was REAL glad to see you bounce back up.]

Hook em Horns till we meet again.

GO BIG 12!!!!!

Jimi-I agree with you about Jamie's game. Some of us Stanford fans were watching the game together and there was a huge gasp when she ran into that pick and hit the floor. Thank goodness she got up.

It was one of most entertaining games I've seen this year.

Cardinal - you think there was a huge gasp in CA, you should have heard the "air sucking" in Austin when that happened. And then to think that she got popped in the jaw just a few minutes later. I plan to try to go to practice this week to see how she is doing. She seemed fine during the rest of the game, I sure hope she is OK.

Seeing that second Carey fall live in Bramlage I assumed she got her feet tangled up with Wecker or had a body collision from the side. (I sit across the court on the other side.) Seeing the game tape and a replay on TV I agree with the person who said that would have been a good "no call". Whatever it was it was not a foul by Carey. That was adding an insult to an injury.

I have to say this is by far the best game I have seen in big12 play up to this point. Great game by both teams. A slug fest of two goliath's. I was very impressed by the clean physical play by both teams. Ohlde is just so good under the basket. Kstate has the best outside game in the big 12, because they spread the floor like no bodies business. Texas Stephens, Schreiber, and Bowers had a heck of a solid game. I think both of these teams are a couple of notches over Texas Tech. Granted I think Tech is a great team athletically, but they dont compare to these two teams physically or fundamentally. And Cisty is a finesse player, against these two teams she looks more like a "sissy" because I dont think the has the strength or tough mentality to compete with these two teams. My predictions for the big 12 are still:

#1 - Kstate
#2 - Texas
#3 - TTech

but Texas will win the big 12 tournament - Kstate will win the big 12 regular season title.

No call? What are you talking about? Wecker smacked her in the face with an elbow! How about a foul on Wecker?

Yup, no call. wecker did not throw her elbow at Carey. I doubt she even knew she was there. Her arm movements were just normal off arm balance movements with Wecker moving down the floor with the ball in her other hand. Carey ran into her elbow. Good place for a "no call", play on.

Txsnos - Wecker did not smack Carey's face with her elbow. Carey didn't see the pick and she ran over a stationary Wecker. That's against the rules, thus the foul on Carey. The announcers correctly pointed out that the real fault lay with Carey's teammates who should have called the pick for her.

Two different plays soonerman, although they happened very close to each other in the game. Carey picked up two quick tough foul calls. I'm not complaining, but neither was really her fault.

Ah yes, I remember the plays you are talking about, and you are right.

Pretty inconsistent when the inside players are beating up on each other, then a guard gets a hand check call.

Standard Big XII officiating. Let 'em bang and then call a touch foul.

Ah, I believe Carey's face was there first, which is why it popped backward so hard when Wecker's elbow came flying back. Perhaps you need another look at the play.
