Too many rebounds for Texas and too many turnovers (many where the ball was just thrown away) spelled doom for the Lady Raiders tonight. The Longhorns outrebounded Tech by 10 in the first half, but the Lady Raiders kept it even after the break. This problem was solved only for the Lady Raiders to continue to turn the ball over. Turnovers were 19-12. Tech didn't shoot too bad either. They shot 42%ish. UT hit their FT's in the end, but the game stayed 4-7 points after UT jumped out to a 11-1 lead. The LR just could not get "that break" tonight. Good game by the Longhorns and we'll see you back in Lubbock (I'll actually get to see that game http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif ).

P.S. This is the first time that Tech has outshot their opponent percentage wise and lost. They'll get it back together though and Colorado better watch out! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

Heather Schreiber came up huge: 15 pts and 15 rebounds. Stacy Stephens also stellar with 20 pts and 8 boards.

Key to the game: Pierson picking up 2 early fouls and sitting much of the first half. She finished with 16 pts, all but a couple came in the 2nd half.

Congrats to Conradt on #800!

Texas ran out in front and refused to give it up.

Pierson played almost none of the 1st half while Perkins carried Tech. Pierson had a good second half to finish with 16 points. Ayers had a good game in her first real action in a while.

Texas took the ball away 15 times, Tech turned it over 20 times and Texas pulled down 21 offensive boards. Stephens, et al, took advantage of all those opportunities.

I hate to say it, but you out hustled, out rebounded and out defended us tonight. Congratulations Horns, you deserved the win.

I didn't believe and was wrong. Despite a poor shooting night Texas won the game in every other way.

Your post players bullied Tech tonight, making them look average.

And heartfelt congratulations to Coach Conradt. I know of no coach living or dead who deserved to win 800 wins more than she did.

On to 900!

Changed "like sissies" to "average", in deference to Bball Girl. I shouldn't have used that language in the first place, since I wasn't there to actually see the game.

Thanks for all the congrats. It was a great game to watch. The Lady Raiders have a great team and the rematch in Tech will be something else!

I was watching the game with a couple of friends of mine who say that they'd rather watch paint dry than watch womens basketball.

That all changed by the end of the game. There were really impressed with the skills.

The down side is, now they've become Texas fans http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

Anything for a new women's basketball fan, huh. This was a great game to convert the most resistant!

It was a great game tonight - ugly basketball in the first half, but two great teams that fought hard. Congrats to the horns and kudos to the raiders for a tough game.

Extra kudos for Jody who not only won #800 but also managed to keep the focus on the student athletes.

I take exception to the statement that the Horns made our post players look like sissies...yes they were forced to back off because of all the fouls but at NO time did they ever give less than their all.

I was impressed with Carey..she's got great ball handling skills and I just liked the way she played. Stephens was a gamer..she plays hard and physical but never dirty and Schrieber was huge on the boards. Congrats to Jodi on 800..a wonderful achievement for her, Texas and WBB in general.

The difference in rebounds and turnovers was the game. Tech needed to be the agressor to win this game and they got back on their heals and never quite recovered from that.

But I couldn't be more proud of Tech...playing in such a big game, they hung in there and fought hard. Ayers...where have you been girl? was key...Casey with her rebounds, Pierson finally making some great shots and Jia..always Jia. Grant never lost her composure, kept the team calm and hung in there after 4 fouls.

...we're looking forward to the rematch in Lubbock. I was disappointed in the attendance at the Drum especially with all the incentives being offered. We have more than that on a regular basis...so I promise Texas that the USA will be packed for that Feb game.

On to Colorado!

Good luck K-State! (is this game going to be televised)

Nice win Texas! Sounded like a nice game plan and emotional win for this program. Congrats to JC on her 800th!

What a game!!!!! The Lady Raiders never quit but like most have said, we outhustled them in every way. Our shooting was DEFINITELY off (even Carey which is a surprise), but we hung in there and gutted it out. When the lead went to 11 I believe at one point, we had a chance to put Tech away but missed at least 8 or 9 layups in close. I will say this - Erin Grant played hard and she is definitely a very good player, but Nina Norman brought her A game too. Should be fun to watch these two over the next four years. Jia was incredible the first half, but I think only scored four points the second half. Anissa Hastings was all in her jersey!! Great defensive job by Anissa on Jia. Congrats to Coach Conradt.

What a great game and great atmosphere. The Horns came to play tonight and they looked good even though they could not hit the broad side of a barn in the first half. Sharp is a class act and the two coaches hugged after the game. I expected better inside play from Tech and at times they looked totally out of sync...maybe it had something to do with the Horns defensive pressure. Norman did bring her 'A' game last night and it is going to be a fun four years watching these two battle it out. Grant did state that she did not see things changing as far as her win streak in the Erwin Ctr., but the Horns thought differently.

Congratulations to JC on # 800....now, go get KState.

Great game - in particular since my team won. I have a feeling that if Texas had lost I would be crying about what an unusually poor shooting night it was for the Horns. Tech is a very, very good defensive team and forces low FG percentages from most teams. But, Texas was also cold from the field. I thought the team looked a little tight in warm ups. Not surprising before a big game, and with the added pressure of all the 800 win "hoopla". I think that lead to some forced and rushed shots. But, they hung in there and still found a way to win. A great win for a great coach against a great opponent.

I thought that rebounding was the key. Unless I missed one it was almost six minutes into the game before Tech ever got a rebound. By that time Texas had taken the momentum and the lead.

Erin Grant was great and is going to be an exceptional basketball player for Tech. But, Nina Norman really stepped up in this game. Her development has been a huge key for this team.

I was really confused by the Tech strategy at the end of the game. With over a minute left and only trailing by 6 or 7 they started fouling at every opportunity. I thought that was way to early, and felt the game was over as soon as that started. They had fouls to give and I expected pressure in the backcourt to try and force a turnover and get a quick score.

The Erwin Center crowd wasn't bad for a weeknight - based on the norm here. It was louder than normal. UT really has to find a way to better market this program. It is a shame that more people don't realize special things are going on with this group of young women.

Oh well. Very tough game on Saturday. Gotta move on.

This game was a classic example of JC's philosophy prevailing -- You're not going to shoot well EVERY night... but you can always bust your butt on defense and rebound. I understand that philosophy very well because I was coached that way also. Congrats to my girls, my favorite coach, and my favorite sports team of all time!!! Time to move on now to KSU -- that's going to be a tough one. We've never won in Manhattan, and they've got a great team and coaching staff. Their fan support is SUPER, and we just may be a little flat emotionally after two huge wins. I sure would like to se us finally get a win up there! GOOD LUCK LADY HORNS!!!!

What an exciting night to be a Longhorn fan. The team beat a huge in-state rival, improved its standing in the conference race, raised its RPI, and earned the 800th win for Coach Conradt. All-in-all, Tech fans have been pretty gracious while Horn fans are plenty aware that our team still has to go to Lubbock. Next up for the Horns - KSU in Manhattan. If the Horns win that game, I'll be ecstatic.
