Not much to say.......one ugly game. I think OU had at least 21/22 turnovers. Kansas had around 30.
OU's postplayers made 2 FG's between all 4 of them.
The guards played pretty well, especially Maria and Dionnah; Chelsea couldn't get going until late.
Coach Coale sounded so angry at the post-game interview that I thought she might spit.
It won't be very fun anytime soon for the Sooner ladies. I think she's just about fed up with the ** turnovers.
I know I am.

I could not believe how lousy OU started right from the gate....
KU was up 8-0 before OU quit turning the ball over and got a shot off.
I bet she lights a fire under 'em for the next game and they are going to need a fire. Four frontcourt players combined accounted for 2 field goals. That will not get it down in Waco.
Whew, almost feel for the OU girls in "practice" this week. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
The "shiner" of the game was Lauren Shoush, she's been playing really well.....I thought maybe Wadsworth would earn a starting spot if she kept it up, but she didn't play well tonite....Lauren Shoush actually started the second half in place of Laura Andrews. One thing about Wadsworth I keep forgetting though.......she's a freshmen, too. She needs a can of that sticky stuff we used to use back in high school to hold on to the ball.....give Teresa some, too...do that still make that stuff?
Of course, Conchita Maria and Action Jackson....money in the bank!

We experienced your pain in Waco tonight with the turnovers. At times BU looked good and then they made some terrible passes.
Besides turnovers, was there any one thing that made the OU game ugly?
Besides the fact that we have a team of space cadets?
Not much.

It will be a long day in Waco if one of the four frontcourt players we have left playing have games like they had tonite.
Though our guard play with Maria and Dionnah was excellent.

Turnovers must of been tonight's theme. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

According to the box, Laura Andrews only played 6 minutes. Anyone know why exactly? I assume it's not an injury (thank goodness), or would have heard about it by now.

No injury....just a testament to the play of the frontcourt.
Antoinette Wadsworth came in before there were 2 minutes off the clock....she couldn't do anything. Schuknecht probably played the most of the frontcourt players, she couldn't make a shot.
Preston seemed to have been struck with same
can'tholdontotheballcan'tmakeashot syndrome that struck all of them. Though, I don't know that any of them took many shots besides Schuknecht.
Lauren Shoush was playing really well to end the 1st half, so she got the start of the 2nd half in Andrews place.....I really think that position could be won by 2 other players in Wadsworth or I guess, Shoush....but we would be playing 4 guards and a post and Shoush doesn't even begin to have the size to pretend to be a PF. Andrews, too, is actually a guard that's been asked to play the PF.....she does have the size, just not the experience.

I think it's going to take a big-time serious butt-kicking to shake OU up enough to start taking care of the ball. There's a feisty little squad down in Waco that is prepared to do just that this Sunday. Our girls simply are not paying enough attention to what is going on, that's all. If they get beat badly enough it might give them enough of a reality check to get them going. Who knows? There is a ton of talent on this new Sooner team, and I have watched them do some great things. They just haven't learned to focus yet, and I'm hoping that this will happen soon without too much pain and grief.

In that four guard line-up, Chelsea plays the PF spot. Offensively, she can post up a smaller player, and pull the bigger players away from the basket. It worked well against KU, but I can't see that line-up being able to defend Baylor inside.

I was at the game last night and I do have to admit that OU didn't look near as impressive as they should have. KU had the lead for a fair amount of time in the 1st half and then came within 3 pts in the second half (somewhere near the 5 min remaining mark). I'm not sure exactly what was wrong, though Villaroel was very, very impressive. She's a skinny little thing that just slides through the D and makes her shots. Jackson was also shooting well and Welsh (?, I think) hit a few 3s. Sherri must have had something to say at the half because the team didn't return to the court until the buzzer for the second half to begin sounded..no shooting around, nothing, their bench was clear. In the second half, they made a fair amount of cuts and seemed to get back into the rhythm. Much to KU's detriment, they (KU) couldn't convert all those turnovers to points. (however, pts off turnovers for KU and OU were virtually identical 21, 22). Key diff appears to be points in paint: OU 28, KU 16.
As for KU, until they 1) cut down the turnovers, 2) find consistent scorers and 3) keep up their intensity for the entire game (rather than just the first half), they're not going to get it done. Also, I have to say, the rebounding for KU was NOT what it has been. We barely won the rebound ratio (32-31) and OU was getting too many second chances and we were getting only one or two shots offensively. The shooting % also tells an interesting story. 1st half OU 37% KU 42% ; 2nd half OU 42% KU 38%. Best I can tell, free throws helped put OU over the top.
Even though OU put the game out of reach in the last 4 minutes or so, I would have expected a little more dominance. KU's going to catch someone on their off night, they've just got to keep the intensity level (I think there's a freshman-hitting-the-wall tiredness thing that might be starting to kick in..bad timing) and they also have to keep up the emotional level too. As much as they wanted to win a conf game, they've got to focus on the positives and not get down mentally. If they fall into the mindset that they're destined to be in the same boat as they were last year, they're doomed. Next up for them, Texas A & M.
