Big Buzz in the East of course was the home debut of the Blue Hens of Delaware. The second largest single game crowd (3,040) saw the Hens beat Navy 67-50. As expected (Heck, as always expected) Elena Delle Donne led the way with 26 points.
It was a big day in Eastern Washington, not so big in Montana. Washington State beat Montana State 73-61. 6'5" Freshman Carly Noyes lead the WSU scoring for the first time with 16 points. Gonzaga defeated Montana 75-48. Heather Bowman made 9 of 10 shots, 6 of 7 free throws for 24 points.
Wisconsin beat Marquette 56-49. That's two wins in a row for the Badgers after several years of Marquette superiority.
There were a few big upsets on the volleyball scene, including two out on the coast. #12 Hawaii beat #5 Illinois, but I don't really count that as an upset. Hawaii was grossly, even unfairly seeded lower than they should have been. The other upset was #13 Michigan over #4 Stanford. That WAS an upset. And of course, there was #10 Nebraska over #7 Iowa State, but I don't see how this could be classed as a real upset, though doing it in three was a bit unexpected.
