I think Bill Fennelly does not get near enough credit! He's the one that paved the way. He first showed that you could take a school with attendance in the hundreds and build a first rate program both in attendance and quality.

Just as Johnny Orr and Billy Tubbs revitalized a moribund Big 8 conference in the '80's, Fennelly and then Coale woke up the Big XII. They are the reason that Mulkey, Yori, and Goodenough were hired. They are the reason Jody came out of retirement. They made this conference competitive!
