Stacy Stephens and Erin Grant were named Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week.
I'm a bit suprised by Stephen's pick this week. A post player going 3-10 and having 6 TO's in a game isn't overly impressive, even if she did hit her FT's and get 8 rebounds. Her line in the other game this week was better, but still. I would have picked Ohlde or Wecker or Villarroel. Just my 2 cents...

I suspect Stephens got her's because she scored her 1000th point..and they do look at both games.

Let's not get all bent out of shape over this folks. First and foremost, the writers try to spread the wealth around. UT has not had one honoree this year until now and it was about time one or more of their players were recognized. Comparing statistics is one method of evaluation, but many contributions to a team or a game do not show up in stats. Too often these awards go the person who scored the most, period. Stacy Stephens numbers would be much higher on a less talented team. She could have easily had 30 points against A$M had Jody left her in the game that time.
Now, I personally thought the award should have gone to Schreiber ....

Um, I don't know that anyone was bent out of shape. I was just surprised that Stacy won it. And so, to see if my surprise was warranted (IMO), I decided to compare stats with some players who I would not have been surprised to see win it based on what I recall their performances were this past week.
If 'spreading the wealth' is the goal of a POW award, let's just petition the media to draw names out of a hat.

I agree, spreading the wealth has NOTHING to do with it. If memory serves me, Colorado hasn't had a POW or ROW since 2000-01 and I remember someone said ISU didn't have 1 that whole 00-01 season either. There's no way there haven't been CU performances that haven't merited consideration during that time...if they were looking to spread the wealth, CU would have gotten something at least one time in the last 2 seasons.

Two-time Big 12 POY Stacey Dales never won the ROW award, and won the POW award a total of 3 times, while Danielle Crockrom won a ROW and 5 POW honors.

Laneisha Caufield did win the rookie of the week award several times in her rookie year.....which would have been Stacey's RY.
I think Stacey played pure PG, with Phylesha and Laneisha carrying the bulk of the scoring load.

There has been a discussion in another forum about the ACC POW honor. The gist of the issue is that Alana Beard has won every single ACC POW award this year except 1 (Duke's Iciss Tillis won that one this past week.) It was pointed out that a couple of players (from Georgia Tech, NC & Virginia) had just as big statistical weeks as Beard and in much more important contests than what Duke was involved in, yet the pickers picked Beard.
I was thinking when I read that discussion that I was glad the B12 media and conference office attempted to recognize great performances across the conference.
