and Stacy Stephens scores her 1,000th point as a Longhorn.

At last, Texas beats Baylor during the KMR era! The Texas fans are very happy today. We haven't forgotten the pasting we got a couple of years ago in Waco, particularly those of us who were at that game in person. Today, Baylor came out aggressive and physical early but only succeeded in getting into early foul trouble. KMR was unusually subdued throughout the day. KMR said that her team lost its poise after failing to score early. That seems right. Baylor made mistakes that the Bears didn't make during the Crockrom/Lambert years. I'm sure the Bears are better than they looked today. They are also a young, talented team who will get much, much better.

Texas starts 4-0 in conference and prepares to face Texas Tech in Austin on Wednesday. Both teams come in after dominating victories.

I agree that Baylor has the makings of a good team. I'm sure our game in Waco will be a tough game.

As for KMR's behavior, maybe she reads hoopscoop and has taken some of the comments to heart. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

Well, 4 of the last 5 isn't bad. That was an ugly game from a Baylor perspective. 26% from the floor (lowest of the year),
8% on 3-pointers (ditto). No semblance of an offense at all. Texas did play good aggressive defense, but not that good.
Nobody showed up to play at all, except maybe Sophia young, who worked hard and did what she could against Stephens.

As for KMR, she was definitely on her angel behavior today. I have no clue why. I am also a little puzzled by her substitution pattern in the last third of the first half. The game was not close, but not yet out of range, and only Dionne Brown was in real foul trouble, but she sat all the starters for a good 4-5 minutes, something she has NEVER done except late in a blow out.We were running 3 freshmen and 2 sophomores, and it showed. I assume she was sending a message to the starters, but to do it in a big conference game when the game wasn't decided yet strikes me as kinda strange. Hopefully if it was a message, it was loudly received.

Congrats to the Horns. Schreiber was a madwoman today.

EXCELLENT defense today Horns. Our offense looked better than it has looked in a long, long time. We had excellent movement and did the inside/outside thing exceptionally well. I was very impressed with the freshman Sophia Young. She can flat out jump. There was never a question in this game. The Horns took charge from the start and never looked back. It will certainly be interesting to see how we do against Texas Tech. HOOKEM!!!!

The game of basketball is a thing of beauty when played like the 'Horns played it for about 30 minutes yesterday. Excellent contributions from all of the key players. Tai Dillard and Heather Schreiber in particular had outstanding games. The beautiful thing about that is that their good play opens things up for Stacy inside. Tai has really been working that hesitation-crossover-pull up jumper to perfection. It is a sweet move. If we can continue that type of play, we will be more than competitive with any and all comers. Really, the only drawback to the game from our side was the drop-off that we had when Jody went to the bench with a 30-pt. lead with about 10 minutes left. We could not find much offense with that group and things got real ragged.

Congrats to Stacy on 1,000 points. Here's hoping for 1,000 more before she graduates. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif The next week will be one of the most important stretches of the season. Hook 'em!!!

What fun it has been to see this team play as well as we know they can. I was at the A&M game and they looked really good at both ends of the court there as well. In our recent victories they seem to be talking to each other on the court and moving well away from the ball.

I'm particularly excited to see Tia get back to 100%. Her senior leadership is really, really important.
Looking forward to another barn burner UT/TTU game on Wednesday - should be nothing but great women's basketball.

It was a great game on Saturday. Glad to see Heather "back".

It was full of surprises, like:
1)KMR was conspicuously quiet... and even before the game was a blow out. I have never seen her like that. Wonder what was up? Has she been reprimanded lately?

2)I expected a much closer game. Texas did play great defense, but I was shocked at Baylor's poor shooting. I haven't seen that many airballs since the Latvia exhibition game!

Looking foward to the Tech game on Wed.

Go Horns!
