Mind-boggling statistic - A&M had 17 more shots than OU and lost by 38 points.

Here's why:

Field goal percentage
OU 54.9%
A&M 25.0%

Free throws
OU 16-20
A&M 3-5

3-point FG's
OU 5-11
A&M 2-14

Rebounds
OU 46
A&M 32

Assists
OU 23
A&M 6

Blocks
OU 3
A&M 0

Steals
OU 17
A&M 11

While it is really hard to tell what kind of progress a team is making against an out-matched opponent, my impression was that OU is starting to make strides toward being the team they ought to be. On the Baylor!

I like OU's assists numbers best of all...that's got to be a season high.

Ok, TAMU couldn't hit the side of a barn with a running start in the second half.

OU played well, turnovers were a problem, though they were making that *extra* pass that they've not been making, hence the assist number.

Conchita Maria didn't miss a single shot....9 for 9 FG and 3 for 3 FT. Antoinette Wadsworth played outstanding....and showed her athleticsm that we all saw last year. She did a flip out on the court that should have been worth at least 8 points http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif...and grabbed 7 rebounds. Teresa contined her play from the TT game..and didn't jump back into her head.....Beky Preston....we got a laugh tonite, she wouldn't shoot the danged ball....but everyone played, everyone scored....and I think the theft monger tonite playing alongst the ultimate theft monger of the Big XII...was Lauren Shoush. Chelsi Welch had Dionnah's shooting woes from Wednesday nite.

Conchita Maria was worth 35 Hoopla Points by my figures.

What a bizarre game plan! Just another example of Coach Coale being one step ahead of everyone in her thinking.

OU starts emptying the bench with about two minutes gone in the first half. OU has leads of 3 points, 5 points, and we're just going down deeper into the bench. By half-time, all 10 healthy players have gotten significant minutes, and quality minutes with the score close instead of the usual up 25 before the subs see action. OU only up 9 at half-time.

I'm going crazy because Maria is my OU Hoopla entry, and she hasn't been on the court long enough to do anything!

Second half, the starters come out and put the game away, then we have a long stretch with the starting perimeter players and Becky and 'Nette on the inside - score just keeps floating out there.

OU wins by 38 (missing doubling A&M by one), and Maria comes through for me:

21 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 blocks, 3 steals, 9-9 shooting, 3-3 at the free throw line, marred only by 3 turnovers. 36 hoopla points by my calculation!

Dionnah's strategy seemed to be to concentrate on being a point guard rather than trying to carry the whole team herself. 5-8 shooting sure looked better than 2-16. Also 8 rebounds and 7 assists.

OU outscored A&M 46-17 in the second half. The 2nd half was like one-long highlight reel.

It was either A&M shoot, OU rebound, Nate Hybl, I mean, Jackson or Shoush throw the long bomb to Maria, Maria hit a layup.

Or it was Shoush, Jackson, and Maria create turnover, OU go down court and make layup.

Or Maria block shot, OU go down and score layup.

A&M has talent, but as usual plays undisciplined and I guess will forever be in the cellar of the Big 12 as long as Gillom is there. Oh well, so be it.
