Baylor at Texas: This one is by far the harderst for me to pick... Texas has the talent to go far in this conference, but they seem so inconsistent. I flipped a coin, Baylor wins.

Colorado at Kansas: KU is much improved, but not that much. Colorado wins and Tera has a big game.

Texas A&M at Oklahoma: Oklahoma has been very impressive this year in spite of losing so many players. It's a testament to Coach Coale really. Oklahoma wins easy.

Oklahoma State at Texas Tech: I think Tech wins this one, but not quite as easily as they'd like. I have no reason for this opinion.

Missouri at Iowa State: I'm gonna have to go with the Cyclones on this one. They're at home, and plus they played on the same level as K-State last night (or did K-State play on the same level as them?)

Kansas State at Nebraska: K-State wins big, has a great shooting night, and Laurie Koehn returns to make 7 of 7 3 pointers. OK, this is just what I'm hoping for, but it could happen! Hopefully a lot of K-State fans will make this trip.

Colorado over Kansas (Bjorklund breaks out of her slump)
Oklahoma over A&M

Iowa State over Missouri
KSU over Nebraska (I think Nebraska beat KSU at home last year, but I just can't see it happening this year).

Baylor will come out ready to play and Texas may be looking ahead to uh....well yeah...I think Baylor upsets UT at home. Baylor by 2 in OT.

CU at Kansas will be no easy game for the Buffs. KU seems to have some really good defensive games and then falls away. CU takes this one...barely. CU by 4

TAMU at OU-Coach Coale will be looking to get her team back in the W column and TAMU has no control over this. OU wins by 22

OSU at Texas Tech shouldn't be much of a game but the Cowgirls will come ready to play. In the end, though, the crowd and Lady Raiders to much for OSU. Texas Tech by 31

Missouri at ISU...Cyclones by 11

Kansas State at Nebraska...Wildcats by 14

Baylor at Texas - This Texas team beat Tennessee in Austin, I've seen the inconsistency on the road, not in Austin. And I finally get to see this Baylor team on TV. Texas

Colorado at Kansas - hmmmm, I think this may be the game of the day. I think Kansas is getting mightly hungry and ready to put a halt to that infamous Big XII record they are carrying of losses....Kansas

Texas A&M at Oklahoma - Jaynetta Saunders will keep someone busy, but there just not enough of Saunders to go around. OU

Oklahoma State at Texas Tech - uh oh, this game's on TV? That's a scary thought. But I really enjoy watching TTU's team, haven't seen OSU since early November, either....TTU wins big.

Missouri at Iowa State -- I haven't seen a lot of promise in this Missouri team....and did someone really name their child "Stretch" James?....no, her name is Chinyere James. ISU.

Kansas State at Nebraska - ouch, even without Koehn or with a very limited Koehn, KSU wins big.

Saturday, Jan. 18
Baylor at Texas [FSN], 1 p.m........This will be a competitive game, but I like the Horns because they are better inside and have enough outside. Texas 79, Baylor 67

Colorado at Kansas, 2 p.m......Young aggressive Kansas will give Colorado a run but the Buffs will pull this out with a heaping helping of SuperSabrina. Scott and Lappe will have to take up the challenge. I was at the grocery store the other day and found Tera Bjorklund's face on the milk carton.

Colorado 73, Kansas 58

Texas A&M at Oklahoma, 7 p.m......The Aggies are in the Enron Cup Race, but I'll take Oklahoma here. The Sooners continue to play above what the should be.

Oklahoma 78, Texas A&M 57

Oklahoma State at Texas Tech [FSN], 3 p.m....There's been some talk that Texas Tech isn't the best team in the league, two games this weekend will quiet that down. This is game #1. Texas Tech needs to horsewhip the Cowgirls. They'll do that
Texas Tech 81, Oklahoma State 51

Sunday, Jan. 19
Missouri at Iowa State, 2 p.m.....Hmm, interesting midpack battle here. The Tigers are tougher than you may think, the Cyclones are suspect. In the game like this you go with the team that has the best player on the floor working for them. ISU does in Lindsay Wilson. I say they win a close one, and Cyclones fan will complain afterwards that the Missouri players were cheering too vigorously in the final 3 minutes of the tight game.

Iowa State 65, Missouri 63

Kansas State at Nebraska, 2:05 p.m....Above in predicting the TTU game, I said two game this weekend will show why all the talk about TTU being #2 in the league will die down. Here's game #2
Last season KSU lost to Nebraska at home, mainly because the Husker backcourt contained Laurie Koehn, which greatly limits the Wildcat response and lowers the effectiveness of Nicole Ohlde and Kendra Wecker.
This season Nebraska is not nearly as offensively capable, but Kansas State will not be either because Koehn is injured. Chelsea Domenico is the Wildcat quarterback, and she'll have to push against a red glacier of defensive pursuit and the long arms of Margaret Richards and Alexa Johnson.
After 10 Domenico turnovers and patient persistent offense, all talk of KSU Final Four hopes will cease.

Nebraska 59, Kansas State 50

Very funny about Tera, Chipper. If you happen to locate her, please call Coach Barry directly.

Jimi
01-16-2003, 08:00 PM
BU @ UT
Team Rawhide is on their own range. Preditors will be not be allowed to rome free in this one. Texas wins.

CU @ KU
This one is harder for me to predict than it shold be. Logic says CU. If this is going to be a game where Tera Bjorkland gets well, Coach Barry better keep her away from Ransburg. Bjorkland will have a very hard time avoiding fouls if she tries to stop her post up & slash moves. I think Lappe & Scott can get it done for the Buffs but if either has any trouble CU breaks the KU string. I'm crazy but I think KU at home will create just enough Phogg to win in an upset. KU

TAMU @ OU
Team True Grit gets it done. OU

OSU @ TTU
The Raiders find the Ark. TTU

MU @ ISU
The Cyclones are not the Perfect Storm but they can frustrate offenses and have enough to blow out the Tiger's candles. ISU

KSU @ NU
I was worried that Chipper might call a new tune and pick the Wildcats this time. I am comforted that he is sticking with form and picking against K-State. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif Domenico is a lot tougher minded than you might think. She is very much a rookie and has played under an injury cloud much of her time in Manhattan. She is well now and her game is coming around on both ends of the court. She backs down from no one. If KSU gives up lots of turnovers they won't be likley to come from Chelsea. Patterson will not count on lots of scoring from Domenico but she won't need it. The Cats may win smooth or ugly but either way they have the stuff to get it done. I expect Nebraska to play tough but they won't have the defensive organization to run specialty zone defenses like ISU can, and they will have a hard time guarding the KSU triangle in man coverage. Straight up zone is out of the question. KSU

Saturday, January 18:

Baylor at Texas...I'm thinking upset here. I believe that Texas may be looking ahead to Tech, and Baylor is definitely a team you can not overlook!

Colorado at Kansas. The Buffs are too much for Kansas and probably have a chip on their shoulder.

TAMU at OU. OU in a rout!

OSU @ TTU. The Lady Raiders may be looking ahead to Texas, but Marsha will keep them grounded, and OSU is not enough for even a distracted TTU team... Texas Tech.

Sunday, January 19:

Missouri @ Iowa State. Iowa State although it may be tough to recover from their near victory at KSU.

Kansas State @ Nebraska...KSU. Comeon let's get real here.

Texas over Baylor OT
I know Baylor won 1 game last year...but didn't they win two? Texas doesn't want to lose this one...

Colorado over Kansas
If Tera doesn't find her shot, it could be a long day for CU..

Oklahoma over Texas A&M
Remember the # of turnovers you had against TAMU last year!

Texas Tech over Oklahoma State
Skibbe always gives us trouble, but Tech will finally have an answer to her

Iowa State over Missouri
tough low scoring game.

Kansas State over Nebraska...sorry Chipper..no contest

Jimi, you said all this last February.
The result. Nebraska 67, Kansas State 52 http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

After four straight losses, its time to reverse the fortune, and who better to break a string than the #4 team in the country. If those kids can't get up for this game, they are truly comatose.

Naw Chipper, I said other things but I didn't say anything about Chels Domenico or triangle offenses. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

You know more about basketball and Nebraska. I know more about Kansas State. Nobody really knows what two groups of young women between 18 & 23 are going to do on Sunday including the darn good coaches they have. A Nebraska victory is in truth no more an outlandish thought than KU defeating CU. One thing in your favor is the adjustments KSU is making to the loss of Koehn as a reliable outside force not to mention her defensive skills. If you would have told me before the season started that we would lose PG Kari Hanson for the season and Laurie Koehn would be limited by an ankle problem I would have been very worried. If you would had told me that Amy Dutmer would be STARTING games for us and playing guard I would have REALLY been worried. Domenico has stepped up, Madden has stepped up and Dutmer is amazing compared to what we saw her freshman and sophmore year. Even Kimmery Newsom is giving Patterson some good minutes this year.

Nebraska may be better at pressure defense than anyone else we played this year. Are they? Or KSU could have a bad day. I do know that KSU has sucessfully handeled things that would have rattled them badly last year. Can K-State be beaten? You betcha, Nebraska has shown some good performances, but I think I am in good shape if the best team wins. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

Its good to see you giving support to the Ladies in Red. If they win I will be major league bummed but I will have a little smirk thinking about how happy you are.

Baylor at Texas. The Bears got a taste of the real world last Saturday in Lubbock. They'll get a second helping in Austin on Saturday. Texas by 13.

Colorado at Kansas. I, too, am tempted to pick an upset here. But I won't. CU by 5.

A&M at Oklahoma. Toccorra will cause some havoc, but can't do it all by herself. OU by 10.

Okie State at Tech. Doesn't matter if Tech is looking ahead to Texas, the Big XII title, or the Final Four. No contest here. Tech by 25.

Missouri at Iowa State. Tigers day is coming, just not on Sunday. ISU by 6.

Kansas State at Nebraska. See TTU comments above. K-State by 18.

"Nobody really knows what two groups of young women between 18 & 23 are going to do on Sunday including the darn good coaches they have.

The kids know what they have to do. For Nebraska its simple. We have play lights out defense on the perimeter and limit Ohlde and Wecker. Let Domenico, Dutmer or Newsom be the headliner if they can.

Offensively. The crappy offense I've seen the last month has to get going. My lasses could play a fine defensive game, and still lose if they shoot 25%. Kansas State will score some points, we have to get ourselves in position to dig out a win.

I'm just as worried about out backcourt has you are of yours. Jina Johansen's had a rough stretch. The guard play was subpar against Oklahoma and Colorado. Nebraska's mental state is the big question. Will they come out firing or will they come out flustered?

I want the lasses to get after Sunday. They haven't shown well against ranked teams lately, but I remember that 0-for-14 job they put on Valerie King, an all-american caliber player. This team can beat Kansas State. A less focused, less inspired team did that last year.

Either way, lets just maintain diginity. If Nebraska losses, let keep it up close rather than let it get out of hand like the OU and CU contests.

Also Memo to Court Jester. If Nebraska loses to KSU by 21 points, they should be taken out back and shot. This team's better than that.

Baylor at Texas - Texas is 8-0 at home
Colorado at Kansas - No yet for Kansas, Bjorklund gets back on track.
Texas A&M at Oklahoma - Big edge to the home team.
Oklahoma State at Texas Tech - Closer than most expect.
Missouri at Iowa State - Iowa State is starting to find the range.
Kansas State at Nebraska - Neither team has much depth, but KSU's starters are much better.

Should be some upsets this week, but who knows where.

Baylor at Texas---Bears get a week of prep time...confident after good showing in Lubbock...Horns have been merciless at the Drum...Stephens must stay on the floor...Hastings and Williams may need to step up...battle royale in the paint...UT over BU

Colorado at Kansas---Jayhawks will win one of these things...just don't know when...Tera needs to snap out of it or it might happen here...CU over KU

Texas A&M at Oklahoma---Aggies lose at home...win on the road...lose at home...win on the......nah!!......Sooners took better care of ball Wed night...must do so again Sat or this game will be one rough ride...OU over A&M

Oklahoma State at Texas Tech---just hope Raiders stay sharp...lots of things to work on...TTU over OSU

Missouri at Iowa State---Cyclones have played 3 close games against 3 different levels of competition...beats the heck out of me...in Columbia I'd go w/ the Tigers...but Iowa State may be pulling it together in the nick of time...ISU over MU

Kansas State at Nebraska---Chipper's almost got me convinced...w/ Koehn hobbled, defenses can make a few more adjustments...KSU over NU in a squeaker
