Can someone tell me if the area around Love Field is an ok area?
Looking to book our hotel with a "pet-allowing" hotel and I know LaQuinta's typically are.....this LaQuinta is about 6 miles away from Reunion right off I-35E (Irving area, I think).....there's one a bit closer, off N. Central Expressway...that looks more complicated "traffic-wise".

My first thought is No! But, if it's close to the interstate, around Mockingbird, that should be OK, and that is a decent location. The other off of N Central is probably a better area, but traffic can get pretty nasty there (well, that's true for just about everywhere though).
If it's more towards Love Field, that's not a great area.

Thanks, Jennifer.....I think it's right off I-35E...looks to be near Grauwyler Park and is west of Harry Hines Blvd....

I'm giving the folks I travel with a couple of options for the Big XII tourney.....I think I'll show them both hotels and explain the traffic issue and what you related about the Love Field area.....

But, I think I'll recommend that we stay at the one off the N. Central Expressway..

The area around Love Field is how shall we say it....pathetic. You probably don't want to be "living" there for 3 days or so. I live up north off of 75 and everywhere down to Mockingbird is a pretty decent place to stay.

Harry Hines Blvd. Hmmm...now, I'm not to familiar with that street, but I think that in that general area--there is some not so moral and upstanding 'business' ventures that go on. OK, I'll just be blunt--that's a strip where (so I've been told) the prostitutes hang out.
Yeah, I'd go for the one off of North Central. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

Swok,

You should at least try downtown hotels since they've recently built a few in the West End that are lower-budget. I think there's a Hampton Inn or something like that there and that would be the most ideal location to eating and Reunion. It might be worth a shot.

For all you looking for hotels, I live in Dallas and would highly recommend the La Quinta off of Central Expressway near Fitzhugh. Any hotels off of Mockingbird and 35 are definitely okay as well. Downtown can be a bit expensive. You might also try the Holiday Inn on Market Center or anything off of Market Center Blvd.

Bobcat:

That's the one I think I've decided on; I saw some of the ones on the West End....not certain if they allow pets and I know the LaQuinta's all do. Are there places to walk a dog around the west end?...granted, it is a very, very small dog.

Prices I got over the internet for the Laquinta on Central Expressway are:

$77.39/nite (promotional, whatever that means)
$85.99/nite (standard)
$71.99 (government rate)

Some of the ones downtown get expensive in a hurry....I'm talking anywhere from $200 to $300 a nite. Dallas has a site set up for the Big XII tourney, but I didn't notice that you got any break on hotel prices when I looked.

Hey Guys.....

I live in Dallas as well and you definitely want to stay away from the Love Field area and also Harry Hines(yuk!!). There are several nice places along the 75 corridor and as Bobcat stated, the downtown area has some great places, if you want to spend some $$$$. The Market Street area has several....Courtyard/Marriot, LaQuinta, Holiday Inn, Sheraton etc. Also the West End, which is a hop, skip and jump from Reunion has several to choose from as well. There are also several "extended stay" places complete with efficiency kitchens etc. There are several areas of highway construction also on the major freeways...

swok, my wife and I are staying at the Hyatt next to Reunion Arena. We were able to get reservations through a travel agent friend for 179.00 instead of the 259.00 the hotel quoted me over the phone. It is our anniversary, so we will splurge a little. I like the West End area, but was not familiar with the hotels there. It would be a nice little walk to reunion, but not too bad.

I wish I could be there, but we're buying a house in a month. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif I doubt my wife would let us spend the money to go to Dallas, and she's as nuts for ISU WBB as I am. Maybe next year...

Zo,

Maybe you could scout out some places in or near your hotel for our Hoopscoop meeting. I looked last night at some of the hotel's around the West End...Amerisuites, Hampton Inn...they seem to be around $130/nite.

Susan, I will try and find out if Mechelle Voepel is staying at the Hyatt or somewhere close by. She said her schedule would dictate whether or not she could chat with us. I wonder if she will know her schedule in advance of the tournament.

Zo, I was just checking the rates at the Hyatt Regency Dallas last night, and checked again just a moment ago, and the rates are listed as $125 per night for a room at the "Save Rate Guestroom" price.

There is also "Reunion Package Guestroom" rate that is twice as much! Heck, the Mansion on Turtle Creek is cheaper than that!

Anyway, you might want to see what the difference is between your $179 rooms and the $125 rooms, just to make sure it is worth the difference.

BTW, I stayed at the Hyatt some years ago, and it was quite impressive. I understand that now the Reunion Tower is actually attached to the hotel complex, while (I believe) it was a standalone building back when I stayed there.

I've been to several events at the Hyatt, and it is indeed a very nice hotel.

Though I live in Dallas, I'm not yet sure I'll be able to attend the games. I'm in the process of trying to find a job in another city and moving...so depending on how things progress, I may be here then (please No!) or I may not. And I definitely won't be taking time off of work if I am still here--need to save that vacation time for a cash payout when the time comes. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

I wish I was familiar enough w/ downtown to suggest restaurants, but I'm not. I know the West End has a Joe's Crab Shack, but I'm drawing a blank on other things.

YCN, THANKS! I just booked a room for 104.00 per night at the Hyatt. Those rates must change constantly I guess. Thanks again.

You are most welcome, Zo! I'm telling you, that is a GREAT price for that hotel. I think you will like it there very much.

Thanks, Bob....I would suspect Tuesday and Wednesday are pretty hectic days for the press given that everyone plays at least once. Personally, I like the Thursday lunch thing since I'm in a dilemma as to when I'll be there....whether that's Tuesday nite and Wednesday nite OR Wednesday nite and Thursday nite....
my crystal ball is not quite as sharp as it has been in year's past.... http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif I really kinda doubt OU will be playing on Saturday nite this year http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/frown.gif
