Mel Greenberg reports on the latest news from Elena Delle Donne's reentry into basketball as a redshirt Freshman at Delaware. http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/womhoops/Gurus_Musings_Smokin_D_Shakes_Off_The_Rust.html In a closed scrimmage against a Division I opponent known for defense, Delaware’s Elena Delle Donne scored 50 points making 20 of 25 shots, with most of the misses being three point attempts.

It appears that the previously unnamed opponent was St. Joseph of the Atlantic 10.
Both teams were mid to lower teams in their respective conferences last season, St. Joseph was 10th in the 14 team A10 at 5-9, 13-17 and Delaware was 9th in the 12 team Colonial with records of 7-11 and 15-15.
Delaware DOES have an interesting makeup. They return all five starters from last season, and still feature only one Senior, and she saw action in only 6 games last year, but was a part time starter the two previous seasons.

Two consecutive articles from Greenberg from October 21
CAA Women: The Delle Donne Effect http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/womhoops/CAA_Women_The_Delle_Donne_Effect.html
Delle Donne's Arrival Has Delaware Coach Looking For Balance http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/womhoops/Delle_Donnes_Arrival_Has_Delaware_Coach_Looking_Fo r_Balance.html
The second one is primarily quotes from Delaware coach Tina Martin, whose "recruiting style" concerning Delle Donne was to do absolutely nothing. That had to be a first.
Greenberg's blog may be worth bookmarking for other topics as well. As I write this, the story on top concerned Joan Bonvicini and some of the other new coaches this season http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/womhoops/
