So, what's this I hear about OU giving away free t-shirts to encourage students to come to the games? Just what we need to hear..more people yelling boomer sooner.
But...I'll take it as a compliment..Coach Sharp used to joke when ISU was still trying to attract fans that they had promotions like.. "Bring Your Church Bulletin and Get in Free Night" and suceeded in getting a good crowd for a game with Tech...course ISU no longer needs to do this..

When I was a student, I went to both men's and women's games...but it's true at Tech, we have trouble getting the students to come expecially after the arrival of Bob Knight. Coach Sharp always goes over and thanks the student section before the game and I did see members of Raider Rowdies (a new group on campus) in full regalia and in good attendance at the last home game before the break.

What's the stuent support like at the other schools? It looks like KSU is getting good response from the students...I see them all jumping up and down during the games..

Outside of the pep band, ISU gets painfully little student support. There used to be totally empty sections in the corners of Hilton that were "reserved" for students. They must have changed that arrangement this year, because those sections are no longer empty.

ISU women's fan base is mostly families.

Student support. Whats that? Baylor usually has at least 10 or 12 students at the games. Otherwise it is families and retirees.

Same is true at OU....mostly families with children. Though, we cannot forget our "labcoatguys"....... http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif Thanks, guys.

And then you get the occasional newcomer who happens to have brought her daughter to perform at halftime and turns and says, "wow, this is really exciting basketball"...... http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif and voila, you have a new fan.

After tonite, maybe we will have new "dog" fans, as the frisbee dogs are performing at halftime.

Lucky you, swok. I always loved seeing the frisbee dogs, but this year there was some sort of conflict and they won't be coming. About student attendance, K-State seems to get quite a few students, to the point where many are complaining that there is no student section. There are 1300 tickets alloted for students, and I do believe that there was a couple times last year that they ran out of student tickets.

At KU, there's probably about a 75%/25% split of families/non-students to students. Students get in free with their student ID (though I don't think many of them know that). There's a fairly large section of students behind the bench and often, the men's bball team players come and watch after their practices. I don't understand why more students don't come when they can get in free, they're missing out.

ps. And according to the high frequency decibal levels experienced at random times during the game, there's also a large portion of junior high school girls in attendance.

We get a few, very vocal, students at the UT games, but the majority of the fan base is made up of families and retirees. We also have a good number of faculty, alum and older students, but we don't get many 18-22 year olds.

The men's team is often at our games, as are other ut athletes. The support among the athletes for all of the UT programs seems to be very strong.

At this point, I don't care if the seats are filled with students or convicts. We just need loud support. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

I do not know if the students get in free with their ID or if they get a discount. It would seem to be the perfect place for a group of students to go and have fun. A real simple first date for a couple. Any suggestions with the general public?

"A real simple first date for a couple.

It is a good cheap evening out, and you can score some points for support women's athletics. Who says mens can't be so sensitive http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

Hey swok..... What a coincidence....we had frisbee dogs at the CU-KSU mens game last night.

If those dogs are touring, send them to Waco. It couldn't hurt.

Hey GoBuffs... did you miss the women's game on Tuesday against Nebraska?
The frisbee dogs were also the halftime show at that game!

Yeah BeBe, I did miss the women's game on Tuesday night....the first home game I have missed in years. It was my first night of school. If it wouldn't have been the first night of class, I would have been there. Thank goodness, no more Tuesday night home games this year!

They really put on a neat show........until the end and you hear the announcer asking for the "towel crew" down on the floor... http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
