It was not an offensive show. there was some very good defense on both sides and CU seemed to get out of sync. Part of that was caused by two early fouls commited by Tera Bjorkland with a third not too long after she came back in. She finished with four fouls but only played 21 minutes. Randie Wirt did not fair too much better inside. She played 36 minutes and scored 4 points with 4 assists, and 4 turnovers to go along with her 4 personal fouls. She did get 6 rebounds. Tera had 1 rebound, 6 points an assist and 3 TOs. Kate Fagan led CU with 10 points.

Wecker led all scorers with 18, Ohlde 15 and Mahoney 14. Koehn scored two points had 2 assists and a TO in 13 minutes. She was limping bad and I'm surprised Coach Patterson played her that much. The bench came through for KSU contributing 10 points and 12 rebounds and 16 points.

The near term future does not look good for much playing time for Laurie koehn.

I'd forgotten about Koehn's injury and had her on my Hoopla picks. I agree, this could be an injury that lingers the rest of the season. It all depends on how much Coach Patterson feels she needs to play. KSU isn't all that deep, so this injury could have major ramifications for the conference race.

Always willing to admit when i'm wrong.

Before the ISU game Ceal Barry claimed that her team was in a class w/ ISU and Missouri. I initially thought that was just coach-speak.

Turns out she not only was serious, she was right.

I apologize to y'all. i obviously am not the judge of talent that i thought i was.

Buffs will finish a distant 6th at best in the B12.

Don't mean to take anything at all away from KSU. In the second half their bench outplayed our starters. Had they kept their starters in all game it mighta been 100-30.

Great team ya have there. Good luck in the future to KSU.

Whoa! BuffsFan22 is quick off the bandwagon!! Just kidding BF22, but I think that your change of heart is a bit harsh. The KC Star did point out that CU held KSU to 20 points below their season average....and CU blew out K-State last year by an equally surprising margin. I am not about to write off the Buffs yet. I think they can still challenge for third place for sure!

Everyone has an off shooting night. It just so happened that CU's was their worst in history. Didn't OU shoot like 24% against Stanford? No one's writing them off. Tera is clearly in a slump, but this too shall pass. Same for Sabrina Scott...Fear not BF22, all will be well.

I had the opportunity to be in Manhattan for the game on Saturday.

First, I would like to compliment the fans of Kansas State. With one or two exceptions, the K-State fans were very considerate to the CU fans, and are excellent basketball fans. The K-State fans that I talked to after the game knew that CU had an off shooting day, and kept telling me that they expect a much different game in Boulder later this season. I can only dream about drawing 11,000 people on a Saturday afternoon. Way to go K-State!

Second, Kansas State played excellent defense, over playing the passing lanes, and totally disrupting our flow. This helps explain why so many of the shots CU took were short.

Third, Kansas State showed a lot more heart than CU did (except for Lappe). Where do Mahoney and Wecker get their energy????????????

It's not time to hit the panic button. KSU is the #4 team in the country for a reason. Remember last season, at halftime of the CU / KSU game in Boulder, it was 46-12, CU.

Let's see how CU plays the next few games. If we lose any of the next 3 (Nebraska, at Kansas, and at OSU) then there may be something to worry about.

I expect Tera and Sabrina to break out of their scoring slumps any time now.

Thanks GO Buffs.

One thing that I have not seen commented on is the injury to Lappe. She took a heck of a shot to her arms and shoulder when she stepped in front of that Wecker pass. She came back and played well in the second half but it looked like the impact really hurt her. I hope she is ok and not too sore to be effective vs. Nebraska. I was holding my breath that she was not more seriously hurt and was glad to see her back on the floor. Linda Lappe was one of the more effective players for CU and I'm sure her absence hurt the team performance also.

I'm a big fan of CU and Coach Barry (after Tech of course) and I expect those KSU Cats to win the game but not like this. Lappe has had so many injuries in her career, I'm amazed that she's stuck with it this long. Let's hope the Buffs can rebound (and I know they can)but I'm a Husker fan too (after living in Omaha) but it should be an interesting game.

Coach Barry will have them ready...and I hope NU took heart from the OU game, they hung in there and didn't fold.

Fear not kate dawg, i was only employing the best coping mechanisms I could come up with at the time.

Obviously, i took losing that way pretty hard.

Gonna have to learn not to be too critical, as well as not to overpraise as i'm going to be covering the Buffs for the one of the local papers starting tonight.

Ain't gonna be easy trying to go from being an emotional fan to an objective reporter.

But i reckon it's worth it to move up from row 14 to press row.

Anyway, i hadn't expected them to win at K-State. But like y'all, i hardly expected what transpired.

Buffs just hadn't struck me as a team that would be blown out by any team. Then again, Vanderbilt put a hurt on us of near equal proportion last season, and we eventually recovered.

It''ll be interesting to see how the team reacts tonight, especially Tera and Sabrina. Sometimes a cold slap in the face can be good sports medicine.

Go Buffs!!!

Second that. All the KSU fans that I met in KC were good people. Came close to making the trip to Manhattan this year, but in retrospect (given the outcome) kind of glad that I didn't.

Thanks for your concern Jimi, but not to worry - she was effective against Nebraska!

btw see you in Dallas - you know have to go! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

So, what's your first piece on them after last night's game?

Hey Jennifer,

I'm doing the coverage for the local independent paper, The Colorado Daily.

They have an on-line edition, but it's far from being as complete as the printed edition.

Today's on-line edition didn't include my coverage of last night's game. Probably had more to do with deadlines than a lack of interest of the Buffs. I was told that my coverage would appear on page 2 of their sports page today, but I haven't gone out to obtain a copy of it yet.

I'll be doing previews and reviews of all the remaining games, so eventually some will make the on-line editions, and I'll be sure to post the links when that happens.

Any Boulder folks on board here, your critiques would be most welcome.

I'm not a trained journalist by any means, so it'll take me a while to get completely comfortable, but I'll get there eventually.

Anyway, my first experience on press row was quite a thrill.

But I had, what i am told, was an unusually early deadline last night and wrote under intense pressure to meet it. Hope is I'll have more time to concentrate on the quality of the coverage in the future.
