Judy Akers Coached at Kansas State from 1968-79. Her record was 206-94 (.687). She was inducted into the Kansas State hall of fame last night. Before the game today she was given flowers by Coach Patterson and the team. I was VERY pleased that the crowd knew who she was and gave her an enthusiastic standing ovation. She got another one at the half when her accomplisments were recounted.

She was a very feisty battler for WCBB and her team and even had to fight for such things as court time, practice basketballs and meager meal money. Once after winning an AIAW tourney she had to feed the team out of her own pocket. She is fun to listen to and she must have been a heck of a coach. I am glad to see this pioneer reconized in front of a loud rowdy WBB crowd of nearly 12,000 that she could only dream about in her day. She and coaches like her laid the ground work for the sport as it is.

That's really neat.....I think we have one of KSU's ex-coaches here at Norman High. Can't think of her name....they are doing really well, beating a ranked opponent for the 4th time this season.

That is neat. '68 is a ways back. Good for KSU to have a program up and running back then even if they got a short shrift.

It is great to have a KSU coaching legend recognized. However, the presentation must have not been very accurate as a number of former players were upset with the ceremony. Apparently, the words given by Pres. Jon Wefald focused mainly on KSU basketball history and not Akers herself, and included many inaccuracies regarding that history. Wefald did not make a good impression with some of the basketball alumni.

On the other hand, how about them Cats. Looks like we are getting geared up for another dandy conference season.
