OU's doing a pretty good job.....both teams seem to suffering their youth. They will play really sharp and then you'll see a mental error that leads to a turnover.

22-20 with about 3 minutes left until halftime.

So far good game...man, Welch needs to get her shot together. The few times I saw her play in HS, she was always dead on. Hm...Come on Sooners!

BTW, there's definitely something all blown up in the chat room. I went in there, and it was like discovering teenagers necking in the rec room.

YCN.......they were speaking spanish when I went in there and it was truly a scary place http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

I have a feeling the spanish queen is going to come out with bells on her feet in the second half.......let's go Mariaaaaaaa..
they closed the gap when they were involving her more.

Can anybody hit a shot for the Sooners?

man, Chelsi's way off her game. Think her mistakes have gotten into her head. I've seen Chelsi just flat out take over a game...maybe after she sits a couple of minutes http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

Chipper, I'll worry a heck of a lot more if we can't hit a shot in February.

Right now, I don't particularly care about win or lose. Hopefully, if OU loses, the "Borg" will get over their case of incurable (a 3-letter acronym).

I just wish someone would take a dang shot without the shot clock being down to almost the buzzer.

Let's go Mariaaaaaaa, the Spanish jewel.

Yippee, look at Beky.

swok, it looks like Beky is coming of age in D-I ball tonight. She is really getting after it.

"Right now, I don't particularly care about win or lose."

Of course you do. This was an RPI game, and right now...The Borg is making resistance extremely futile.

Perryman's playing her tail off, and Teresa's on the milk carton right now. And why does Chelsi look a lot like K.C. Cowgill?

Tell Welch STOP SHOOTING!

Tell Welch STOP SHOOTING!

No way, hosea........ http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif At least this team has some fire in their belly's, I was beginning to wonder if they snoozed in the locker room.

I wish Welch or somebody would heave up a three pointer as tightly as Stanford is guarding on the perimeter.

I like Preston, she's coming to fight...Keep Welch on bench....7 turnovers??? She's playing like she put money on Stanford tonight.

When was the last time OU scored so few points in a game? Hasn't happened this year, probably not in 3 years.

There was a lid on the hoop tonight for OU, not much you can say about that.

Hopefully Stanford has satiated their revenge motive and can get back to being their normal selves now.

Dang! I couldn't believe that. Couldn't buy a bucket inside or out http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/frown.gif Give Stanford a lot of credit. An excellent defensive game in their part especially in the perimeter. They were aggressive, strong and they made plays. The Borg was deadly efficient tonight.

Inside...Perryman dominated and Schuknecht was useless tonight. She got the rebounds, but 1-for-9??? If my center hitting 1-for-9 and played about every minute of the game, that is not good.

I'd hate to be in Schuknecht and Welch's shoes right now, because the whole team was off tonight, but both of them played like they laid some money on Stanford. In my view it was that bad.

Well, that was ugly. I've never seen so many balls bounce off the rim. THat can be fixed. The pieces are all there for this to be a really good ball club, if only they can be put together correctly!
I wonder how Theresa is going to hold up against the physicalness of the Big 12. Better than tonight, I hope.
Preston is tough.
Welch had a really off night. Maybe she won't have another for a while.
Dionnah was agressive going to the bucket--but darn those bounces!!!!

I think Stanford's plan was to force OU to play half-court offense and hit 3's........and that's exactly the kind of game that beats OU.....especially when our best 3 point shooters are sitting on the bench in street clothes.

I told someone at the last game that I thought OU was playing excellent defense for their "youth"......except their 3-point defense suffers.

From what I saw, many of OU's shots taken (though not all) did not come within the offense. Of the 16 FG made, only 7 came on assisted baskets. OU forced up many shots today and also had a tough time shooting. I could see the frustration in Sherri Coale's face. When the shots didn't fall, OU players panicked and the younguns turned the ball over WAY too often. They'll get it back together though and will still be a threat in the Big XII.

Tough go tonight OU. Chelsi looks like she's feeling the pressure and to be honest, has never looked real comfortable in the offense that OU runs, but I've only seen her in a couple games. I was impressed with Preston while she was in. I too wonder how effective Teresa can be against the big's in the B12. She seems so thin, even more so then Cisti last year.

I see a different Sherri Coale on the sidelines this year.

This is the lowest point production during Sherri's OU career. The prior low was 97-98 at 44. Prior to that was 36 in 94-95 and several others in OU's first 3 years of WBB, 74-77.

Chelsi and Laura should break out soon.

Interesting. She looks the same to me. Post-game comments were analytical and to the point.

"We defended well enough - holding Stanford to 58 points, should be enough to win. We had two days of shooting practice in Maples where we shot well. Whether or not the ball is going in the basket is not something you can really control. You miss a few, and the basket just gets smaller and smaller. You control the things you can control, and for the most part we did that".

If there is a difference in Sherri at all, it's that this year she is more of a teacher, where last year (her words) she was more of a "tour guide".

Some quotes from the article in the DO.

That answer wasn't easily available. But another was. The 38-point performance was OU's lowest since two seasons before Coale became coach. On March 18, 1995, Louisiana Tech beat OU 48-36 in the NCAA Tournament.
This summer, I found a newspaper that an old picture of mine was wrapped in that had an article about this game. I was shocked to realized OU was that close to a Sweet 16 bid in 1995! I was a poor college student in OKC, and didn't do much of following WBB then, though I was only 2 years removed from playing juco ball myself.

But Coale had a problem with what she perceived as a lack of fight early in the second half, when Stanford stretched its lead to 18.

"Everything about our posture looked defeated," Coale said. "We didn't carry ourselves like we believed we were going to win, and that bothers me."
Yep, I noticed that. Nobody seemed to have a spark. It was a much to long stretch of ball to watch.

OU rallied, cut the deficit to 12 points and hung around until the late moments. Freshman forward Beky Preston scored all six points in the second half to keep the Sooners close for a while.

"If you're loooking for a bright spot, Beky's it," Coale said.

Yeah, Beky's going to be fun to see develop. But darn the fouls!

"We got great looks, particularly early," Coale said. "We got to the rim and we got open jump shots. We just couldn't put the ball in the basket. And in the second half, everybody started to shoot with hope instead of shooting with know." "The basket tends to get smaller and smaller, and you begin to try to make it instead of just shoot it. It gets contagious."
Yep. THeir youth and inexperience really seemed to show down the stretch.

With Erin out, we do not have a consistent 3 point shooter on this team.....Laura Andrew's is doing pretty good, but she has fought the inconsistent bug all year....Luce has been doing a good job, but she was just too short for yesterday's game to have a chance at even taking a shot beyond the arc. Although Chelsi can hit 3's, I think she is more effective on short - medium range jumpers. Though she can be deadly if she's hitting.

Jackson and Villarroel both can shoot the 3, but they rarely fire from beyond the arc.

Losing to a Top 10 team in a tough environment doesn't bother me, what bothered me the most was how they came out in the second half.....the lack of fire and passion. And part of that may be youth, it seemed no one wanted to take a shot, no one wanted to drive it in to the basket....when they put Beky in, all of a sudden, they looked like the team they are. But if you recall, Beky came into the first half and wasn't effective. And, Beky's a freshmen post and freshmen post usually do what they do best: foul. It certainly is good to see her passion though, her minutes in the second half was absolutely solid.

That's sort of what I thought. I kept on thinking, "Where's the leader, who's the person who wants the ball and wants to take charge?"
Then I thought, "She graduated". Ugh...wrong year, wrong team. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
It'll take some time for someone to mold into that role. My guess is it will be Dionnah, in time. I hope.

What I see Dionnah do so much of the time is try too hard, and I've seen her work through that and then revert back to it.....
and I think that's where a lot of her mental mistakes come from.

but, you are right, this is "her team"...being that she's the only person who had solid minutes off last years team. Quite a load for a sophomore, but if anyone can do it, Dionnah can.
