View Full Version : Iowa State finding the range...
Leading CU 42-36 with 15:47 to go. ISU was leading by 10 just moments ago.
(Note: shot clock violation by ISU with 15:20 to go, CU can cut the deficit to 4 or 3 on this possession. Time out.)

ISU's announcer does not sound too happy about the officiating...

1.5 sec and ISU needs to go the length of the floor to win. Hmmm.

I'm finding myself rooting for ISU, too.....don't know if they can pull this one off though.

wow, what a great job by ISU to hang on the way they did.
Heartbreaker for ISU.
Amazing that CU got almost nothing from their frontcourt and still won.

That would have been huge for Iowa State as they have struggled a bit. Well, no upsets this time. Until we meet again Saturday!

When will Iowa State get to win the close ones!

I agree, YCN...Bjorkland was shooting terribly....and I didn't think ISU had a lot in the center position that would shut her down.

You will see more fouling by ISU this season. ISU plays a more aggressive defense than they did last season. 8 of the 19 fouls were by the two young posts. Of course, the officiating must have been horrible; how else could ISU have lost? http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
Even with the loss, I'm happy that ISU seems to be in sync again.

I didn't listen except maybe to the last 8 minutes or so, but the announcers weren't happy there for a bit.
Is ISU playing less zone defense this year?

Ouch, Jennifer, don't remind me!

I haven't been able to see a game yet, but I heard ISU has gone to some sort of full-court pressure defense. ISU still never plays man defense, but with a deeper team than in past years ISU can afford to play defenses that cause more fouls.

Iowa State played a triangle and two, trailing the Buff guards all night long and shutting down not only Fagan, but also Scott and Bjorklund. None of CU's double-digit scorers had double figures. Bjorklund got looks, but seemed uneasy dealing with the physical play. Amber Metoyer had a huge game, scoring the last seven points.
As for the officiating, I think ISU got tired at the end and were fouling as a result. A lot of offensive fouls were called on ISU for posting up illegally (arms straight out instead of bent) which I could not believe. I've never seen anyone call that!
It was a good game. I can't believe CU won. They probably didn't deserve it.
Oh and one more thing...Lindsey Wilson is the best point guard in the entire country.
Since both the ISU and the CU broadcasters had problems with the officiating, I guess the officiating was pretty fair then. Isn't that how it works?....if both partisan groups think it was bad, it was probably pretty even.
From the CU perspective, it sounded like there were any number of times that Bjorkland was getting hammered without fouls being called (I know a bunch were called on the ISU centers but I guess there could have been a lot more)
Coach Fenelly's comments agree with the 'players getting tired' near the end as the reason for some of the fouls by ISU in the waning minutes.

Thanks for the insights. It's rather hard to tell what's going on sometimes by strictly listening.
It was a very exciting game....I had planned to listen to Baylor/Missouri because I thought that would be the close one last night.....turned out, I was wrong.

Pretty impressive for a freshman in her first Big 12 game. Maybe the Buff fans who touted Metoyer early knew what they were seeing.
Post-game quote from Colorado guard Syreeta Stafford (from CU website):
ON G LINDSEY WILSON-"She's by far the best guard I've every played against. She's just a leader. She will continue to lead. If people think they are going to continue to lose, they're wrong. They will win. She does not want them to lose. She will initiate everything because she doesn't want to lose. It was a fun game. "
