I agree with YCN's picks. The only potential upset I see is Missouri at Baylor, and even that is not likely.

I'm in agreement with you, both....I don't see an upset in this bunch.

Not really any potential upsets here....i wonder why it appears so easy?
Probably because there are going to be 2-3 upsets Wednesday. I have this weird feeling like this season is a landmine waiting to explode.

Well, I agree that these are pretty straight forward.
However, if I had to pick an upset to happen, the most likely would be either Missouri at Baylor or ISU at Colorado, IMO.

Missouri over Baylor (Thought it was in Columbia. Thanks for the info swok!)
Colorado over Iowa State (Will be close)
Kansas State over Kansas (No contest)
Texas over Oklahoma State (No contest in Austin)
Tech over A&M (Only because the game is in College Station, I expect that the game will be close for awhile, but not at the end).
The big question is whether or not there will be more KSU fans at KU than KU fans again......

That reminds me--I saw a Q&A with Kate Scott (Sr, former walk-on at OU from Kansas) on the OU website.
Where is your favorite place to play at:?
University of Kansas, because I always have more fans than KU!

I just don't see any upsets here, but, who knows? I am a charter member of the three blind mice.
Baylor over Missouri
Colorado over ISU
Kansas State over Kansas
Texas over Oklahoma State (I wouldn't want to be OSU after Ohio State)
Texas Tech over Texas A&M

Without a doubt. We're still on break here plus the fact that we only average around 4-500 fans at games regardless. Last year when KSU came in, I had to sit in the rafters because I didn't get there early enough. Would love that kind of fan support here. KU picked the short end of the straw for their conference opener that's for sure. Still, gotta run with the big dogs if you expect to play in this conference. Should help them evaluate where they're at (and not at) early on...I hope KU players are young enough not to play scared.
Gonna enjoy the matchup of Oldhe with Ransburg/Kemp inside. Outside, our D has got to contain those shooters or we're SOL. Guards Burras (soph) and Hallman (fr) may be schooled if they're not tenacious. KSU has the advantage of the players playing together as a team/team chemistry..I expect them to look smooth. KU's option is to disrupt that rhythm, though I'm not sure they're experienced enough to throw diff looks on D at KSU that they haven't seen. Good, tough test for KU..looking forward to seeing how they respond. Now if only I can get there early enough to get my seats away from those darn Wildcat fans...
As one of those darn Wildcat fans in attendence last year I can say it was a memorable day. My wife and I sat near a second level enterance on the east side. I still remember the stunned bewildered look on the face of a preteen Jayhawk fan as he entered Allen Fieldhouse and looked around at the Crowd. After a few seconds he asked his mom, "Where's the Kansas State section supposed to be?" By that time the whole place was purple on both sides and in the ends. Several of us were crass enough to tell him the entire building was Wildcat country.
We were treated well and even got free "Sunflower Shootout" tee-shirts so I should have been nicer to that kid.
Btw, tickets were $5.00 last year. I have been told there is a special price for this game and it will cost us $10.00 this year. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

hate to say this, but GOOD for Kansas.....aren't they only averaging about 5 or 600 fans per game?

Right now it looks like I won't make it. I confess the 10 spot is not an issue but time, distance, my Thursday schedule and another fool to go with me are factors.
The only thing I don't like about the double charge is that if a large number of KSU fans go to KU for the game and pay $10 a seat I can see ole A.D. buddies Al Bohl and Tim Wieser looking at each other and saying "heck let's charge em ten bucks for every game. Those CatFanatics will pay it." http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif
Btw I expect things to pick up in Lawrence with the recruits Coach Washington is bringing in. I would advise the sleeping JayHawk fans to get on the band wagon early so they can get good seats when KU follows KSU and goes to reserved seating and selling lots of season tickets. When I first bought mine at K-State even the ticket office folks looked at me funny. Now my seats are in the chairbacks row 10 section six midcourt. Folks who jumped on the train this year are sitting in the corners or up near the top. Don't laugh KU fans, it can happen. Lawrence is in a better location to draw fans than Manhattan.

The push through the Midwestern Ardennes begins....with the Big 12 Republican Guard beating up on the Enron Division.
Missouri at Baylor....Actually, this game will have some spice., especially with Evan Unrau to keep Missouri deadly. However Reverend Kim and her group of youngsters do pretty well at home.
Baylor 74, Missouri 63
Iowa State at Colorado........The only first division tilt. Did UN arms inspectors take away the Cyclone Nuclear Arsenal? The artists formerly known as ICBM State have turned into Scud State. Even Lindsay Wilson seems a little stymied. Vichy Colorado should roll in the Ceal Tank, with Tera Bjorklund in the lead surrounded by Sabrina Scott and Linda Lappe, who are healthy for now.
Colorado 78, Iowa State 69
Kansas State at Kansas.....The battle of the Sunflower State live from Lawrence. With SuperNicole, Laurie Icewater and of course Kill-And-Wreck-Her around, the Jayhawk diaper line will have to grow up very very fast
Kansas State 84, Kansas 54
Oklahoma State at Texas......OSU rose up and shocked Arkansas, so this team is capable of playing above projection, but it conference play now, and Texas's backcourt wants another opportunity to prove that it can make its frontcourt proud.
Texas 77, Oklahoma State 65
Texas Tech at Texas A&M......Can anybody tell me why Texas A&M even bothers having a womens basketball team? Why? I feel for Peg Gillom. She's not a bad coach, she's stuck at a place were they really don't care.
Guns Up has rebounded nicely from their season opening loss to Lousiana Tech, and a child is leading them (Erin Grant's is that dang good), You got Jia stealing and scoring, and there is Plenette Pierson. In a year that is seeing quite a few player rebuilding a damaged image, she's been top of the list.
Texas Tech 89, Texas A&M 50
Forward, MARCH! All the way to March

I can't find any reason to pick against the common wisdom today and I'm not ambitious enough to try to pick point spreads.
Missouri at Baylor - Baylor
Iowa State at Colorado - Colorado
Kansas State at Kansas, Kansas State
Oklahoma State at Texas, Texas
Texas Tech at Texas A&M, Texas Tech
metromaniac

Don't confuse me with ambitious---just bold, silly or daring---here goes, with point spreads.
Baylor by 21
Colorado by 14
KSU by 29
Texas by 24
Texas Tech by 33
Baylor over Missouri by 6
Colorado over Iowa State by 11
Texas over Oklahoma State by 17
Kansas State over Kansas by 19
Texas Tech over Texas A&M by 7 in the "near miss" of opening night.
Missouri (to be different)
ISU (because I'm a homer)
KSU, Texas, and TTU (because I'm not that stupid. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif )
two cents
01-08-2003, 08:53 PM
Missouri at Baylor---Crowd and Bears should be pumped for 1st conference game after 10 days off...Mizzou not quite ready for tough league road game...BU over MU
Iowa State at Colorado---again, the favorite at home makes the surprise less likely...CU over ISU
Kansas State at Kansas---"veteran" sophs chew up frosh...favs on home court again http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif KSU over KU
Oklahoma State at Texas---same pattern...UT over OSU
Texas Tech at Texas A&M---hope Raiders don't lollygag through the 1st half...take charge quickly and get everybody some playing time and rest...it's a long season...TTU over A&M
I would like to see someone keep track of who ends up correctly picking the most upsets, each week and cumulatively. Favorite/non-favorite could be decided by some objective measure, say RPI and/or national ranking votes. Coming out on top of that statistic would be quite an impressive feat.
Me, no way. I would do better with a random number generator.

I'll keep everyone's individual records....like 5-0, 4-1, etc...
and post everyone's percentage's every couple of weeks....
beyond that, think I would need some "expertise" help.
