Playoffs, Smayoffs, give more games like UConn-Tennessee!

Solid defense, clutch shots, kids hitting the floor. You gotta love this stuff!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think that Tennessee is a better team this year than UConn. I know they lost by one at UConn, but I think for sure they would have won on a neutral court.

We'll see down the road which team is better. Although Duke is ranked #1, I'm not sure at all that they are one of the top 2 teams. In fact, I'm not sure that either Tennessee or UConn are in the top 2, either.

Ought to be a great year for women's basketball. The tourney is going to be wide open this year.

Watch out for LSU...Seimone Augustus is gonna be special. When you see a girl make playing basketball look so easy, you know she is a big time player. Seimone's jump shot and dribble moves are so effortless, and she never seems to force shots, she lets the game come to her.

With IMO the nation's best point guard (Johnson), a solid post player like Ayisha Smith, and outstanding depth, I think the Tigers will be very difficult for Tennessee to handle in the SEC.

"I think that Tennessee is a better team this year than UConn. I know they lost by one at UConn, but I think for sure they would have won on a neutral court.

Based on what I saw at HCC today. I'd disagree.
Tennessee had a 7 point lead with 3 minutes left, and had chances to increase that lead, and a combination of failure to finish and poor execution in regulation hurt them and UConn pulled it together made plays and forced overtime.

The next person who says "they would have won on a neutral court" about any game should be boiled in oil. The game is played where its played. The goal is winning, period.

Having said that. Its a great game, and both teams really showed a lot, especially on the defensive end. Once the initial tightness went away, you saw some great plays. Diana Taurasi was clutch, Ann Strother made one of the best plays I've seen this season and on the Tennessee side, Shyra Ely and Shanna Zolman were working that Hoosier State thing today.

However, these two teams are not as far ahead of the rest of the landscape as people would think. I see Texas Tech, and Texas giving both these teams a very competitive run.

Three fine basketball games today and on national television, too. Too bad CBS put the "C" announcing team on the "A" game. More cliches and cardboard observations than an EA Sports videogame.

Husker, I have to agree with you. Of the three games I watched today, LSU was far and away the most consistent and confident of the participants. They really seemed comfortable in their offense, and their defense was stellar.

I haven't seen Duke this year, but from what I have seen, LSU is the team to beat.

Ditto for me, LSU is an awesome team to watch. And they are a really fun team to watch. Extremely talented.

I was surprised that Connecticut played so well, actually. With
so many newcomers themselves......that was a very exciting game to watch. I figured Tennessee winning would help the Big XII RPI more than UConn winning since Texas beat Tennessee...so, I was kind of rooting for Tennessee.

I plan on watching the La Tech vs SMU game tonite....and rooting for SMU. If #22 or #40 are hitting their 3's, it could be a good game......and one of them can hit from the West side of Ft. Worth.... http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

Actually Chipper, maybe it's your attitude that should be boiled in oil considering the fact that your Huskers are 8-1 at home, with all of the wins of the double-figure variety, while they are 0-1 on the road, again of the double-figure variety.

I'm sure that the 16,294 fans in Hartford had absolutely no bearing on the game. I'm also quite sure that the home team's familiarity with that environment had absolutely no bearing on the game either.

It's quite apparent that had the game been played in Knoxville before 24,611 Lady Vols fans, that UConn would have won by the same exact one point.

Why don't you take a chill pill, Chipper? You team hasn't started its Big 12 conference losing streak yet.

TCU/LA Tech....great game on FSN. Tied right now at 12:46 left in the 2nd......46 all.

and it's Cossey #40 that can knock it down from the west side of Ft. Worth.

Leave to the VC to take the first shot of the season. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

If CU doesn't have some guard play, Big Red will add to your Big 12 loss totals this year.

We're 0-1 on the road, unlike you, I make no excuse for it, no "If we were in Lincoln or on a neutral court" tripe. The goal is WINNING, anywhere the game is scheduled and that is all I was saying. Especially when Tennessee holding a 7-point bulge in the final three minutes. I don't care if the game is at the Pearly Gates with Geno being the Almighty, you don't lose that ballgame under any circumstances.

And as for Nebraska's 8-1 start, most of those were to jabronis, we lost two to the real teams, but beat up a ranked team. So before you take your pot shots from Boulder-Hanoi. don't get it twisted. This isn't last years crybaby Cornhuskers.

Now I'm all charged up for the conference season. Bring on the Hoopla!

I'll tell you one thing: for the sake of my Cyclones, I'm afraid of the Huskers. On the other hand, I'm afraid of just about any team right now. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif I still think this could be a highly competitive ISU team when things come together, but that's taking a lot more time than I had hoped.

Don't get me wrong, Chipper. I may live in Boulder, but I am a Sooner through and through. CU sports are an afterthought to me.

The "boiled in oil" comment was careless, as was my response. But I totally disagree with the home court comment. If I believe that Tennessee would have beaten UConn on a neutral court or at home, why would that be so unthinkable considering it took a late-game meltdown by the Lady Vols on the road for the Huskies to even get to overtime with them? I don't need to deal with excuse-making about how my team didn't win, because I'm not a fan of either team.

Save your boiling oil comments for someone else who doesn't care about women's basketball. You and I are both fans, and you are even a bigger fan than I am. It doesn't mean that I am wrong, or that my opinion is without worth.

My mistake. But I do take umbrage about our coming losing streak. But the nice thing is, the Sooners are the first in line if I'm not mistaken.
And I have a feeling you've chalked that one up as a win, to which I would say "Not so fast my friend.".

I did not say that your opinion was without worth. I just don't agree with it. To me when such things are said, it sound to me like "Team A got lucky," and its cheapens what was an excellent effort by both teams. I do not dismiss the value of home court, BUT it doesn't matter you have to win the ballgame where it is, and that is all what I'm saying.

As for "boiling in oil". It's called a figure of speech. Have we gone so PC in this society that we can't use a figure of speech once in awhile? I could say this instead:

"The next person who says "they would have won on a neutral court" about any game should be boiled in their oil pudding."

I look forward to the coming hostilities at the start of conference play http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

Not this Sooner fan. There's not a single "road" game in the Big XII that I think is a sure bet. Look what Oklahoma State did to a ranked Arkansas on their home court.....and if I'm not mistaken, OSU was ranked in the 200's in RPI and SOS just prior to the game. Meaning they were sitting dead last in both categories to ALL Big XII teams. There are a few home games I'm not so sure we have a chance at.....like our Big XII home opener with

http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/ttu.gif

But, these girls have certainly surprised me before and I'm certain will do so again.

Count this as one Sooner fan who isn't chalking it up as a win, or will I be chalking ANY game these girls play as a win until the final buzzer buzzes and we have more points than the other team.
The Nebraska game actually has me a little anxious.

I take it you mean SMU rather than TCU. SMU looked much more athletic than they've been in the past.

oops, my bad, TXSNOS. I watched the entire game; even though SMU lost, they certainly played outstanding.
