WHEW!!!
Now this is what I call a knock-down-drag-out with blood and bodies all over the place!
Rutgers is much improved this year and you add Hurns to the mix and they are salty. She had a double-double in her first night out and didn't make it to the arena until right at game time. I say RU will give the Big East a run this year.
Pierson 31 pts and 17 rebounds
Ritchie 18 pts
Greenwalt 14 pts, 9 rebounds
Grant 11 points, 12 assists
Perkins 10 pts, 5 assists, 8 rebounds
Davis 6 points 3 rebounds

I was so proud of our girls. They simply would NOT let Rutgers intimidate them. Rutgers went way way way beyond "physical play"! Wouldn't have surprised me if one of them had reached down and pulled a knife out of their sock.
Erin Grant showed unbelievable poise. Plenette, Cisti, and Nat had tremendous games and Jia made plays that won't show up in the stats.
I just hope the cleaning staff can get the blood cleaned up off the floor before Sunday.
The Zebras were awful. They let the game get totally out of control.

When the players start bleeding on the floor, I think it is an indication that play is getting too physical. A fight almost broke out between players from both sides and this was definately because the refs let too much go.
Good job Tech! I think one of the best ways to stop people from playing rough is to beat them and show your opponents that the tactic won't get them a win. I'm glad to see "basketball" win out tonight. Hopefully you will not see others take such a blatant game against you this year.

Very proud of the Lady Raiders tonight!! Not only did they get a big non-conf victory over a good team, but they handled Rutgers' aggressive play VERY well. Only a couple more games before we open what should be a VERY tough conference schedule.

Congratulations Texas Tech. There can't be more than a couple of teams in the country who have as complete a team as the Lady Raiders this year. Great Balance, very good depth, and 2 to 3 stars who can take over a game at any time. Oh, and the team also has a good combination of height, stength and speed.

Way to go, Texas Tech.......I've never liked Rutgers team, though I've always liked their coach. I don't know how I can like Stringer when every team she coaches plays extreme defense that ventures over the line of thugness.
From everything that the pre-conference games have shown me, the coaches and the media were right in picking TT as their choice to win the Big XII.

I'm a believer now!! I think you nailed it, Tech is the most complete team in the conference right now. If Pierson is off, Perkins can take over, or Greenwalt or Ritchie http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif It is nice to have so much depth. Grant has been more than impressive. I look for her to garner Frosh of the year honors, possibly more.

WOW! What a great physical game! Wonderful crowd there as there were more than 13,800 in attendance. NCAA-like atmosphere!
GO LADY RAIDERS!
