I was hoping for Calipari :( but all kinds of sources are now saying that Arizona is negotiating with Capel?
Why would Capel want to leave OU? OU probably has deeper pockets than Arizona right now (the state is in a world of hurt), he made it to the Elite 8, has some AA's coming in, seems to have a great AD and plays in the Big 12. Arizona's great recruits all bailed, the 2 if not 3 of the Big 3 of Arizona are likely to head to the NBA and has a AD that had serious issue. Capel would be starting from the bottom.
He's done a good job at OU and I'm fine with him coming to Arizona (if that is indeed what happens) but why would he?

I've been watching this news all day hoping it wasn't true. ESPN is now reporting Tim Floyd will be the new men's coach at Zona.

My nightly news said that Capel was in Detroit......he was still in Norman around noon because he gets his "haircut" right next door to my office.

Now the news is that USC's Tim Floyd has been offered the job and is considering it.
The GOAZCATS board has been a stitch to follow - someone is tracing all the private plane landings/take offs from the Tucson airport, there have been numerous eye witness reports of Rick Pitino's wife buying a home in Tucson and other such nonsense.
So - now it appears Capel is safe (he'd be crazy to leave OU for UofA right now).

Capel would be a fool to leave Oklahoma. He can build the same thing at OU that he could build at Arizona.
Now Tim Floyd? What is he waiting on. USC will never give him the spotlight he could get in Tucson...and I think Coach Lute would approve...although I still miss Lute.

Floyd is stayin at USC. According to ESPN, he turned down the Arizona job. I think they will go back after Capel now, unless he already officially turned them down.

According to the Tulsa World, Coach Capel signed a contract extension with a raise. No details released yet.

Boren, Capel Issue Statements
New contract terms in works for OU hoops coach
April 3, 2009
NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma President David L. Boren and head men's basketball coach Jeff Capel issued statements today. Work is underway on Capel's contract which will eventually be submitted to the university's Board of Regents for approval.
From President David L. Boren: "We're very pleased and proud of the leadership Coach Capel has provided to our basketball program and the significant improvements that he and our team have made. We intend to provide a reasonable raise for Coach Capel next year based on his performance and the compensation of his peer group. The final action on this matter will of course be made by the OU Board of Regents."
From Head Basketball Coach Jeff Capel: "Our program has made tremendous strides the last couple of years and I continue to be excited about the direction it's heading. I appreciate the relationship I have with President Boren and Joe Castiglione, and we've had very good discussions about my agreement at the University of Oklahoma. I look forward to completing that process and my plan certainly is to remain at OU."
