I hate games like this - I love both of these teams. If the Aggies bring the game they had against OU - they win this game. If they play like they did against Tech - ASU has a great chance. This may not be a pretty game as both teams have scrappy defenses.

I think A&M stands a much better chance against UConn - so go Aggies!

I think the person who wrote the lyrics to the aTm War Hymn was probably Pentecostal. Sounds like they're speakin' in tongues.:p

What happened? It's still not maroon!!!

I don't know about speaking in tongues...well maybe...or maybe they just didn't know you're supposed to BEEP out the cuss words way back then.

Dosty just hurt Colson's feelings on that one.
Arizona State isn't playing around. Texas A&M has to get that defensive intensity up!

So far, one of the better starts to a game in this tournament. Briann January is seriously challenging this A&M defense. CTT is keeping the legs fresh.

Memo to Gary Blair: LaToya Mi-Foul is just good enough to get you beat right now.

26-34 ASU @ 5:15

Who is wearing A&M's uni's and when will they start playing defense?

Jimi
03-29-2009, 02:18 PM
37-42 ASU at the half. ASU is shooting 67%

Colson and Gant with 3 fouls each. Ouch!

You were saying.....???

ASU is much like A&M -- they're capable of playing tough nosed, scrappy basketball and they are showing how good on offense they can be. They are also capable as A&M of going into an offensive coma at times.

Gant and Colson with 3 fouls is not good - that last foul on Gant was bogus. I expect TK to have her usual 2nd half spark and the Aggies to pull this out. The toughest team wins - are you tough enough A&M?

You have to become an offensive cadaver to lose to my lasses, and on that day Arizona State did.

The Sun Devils are doing what they are capable of. They are executing very well. and Texas A&M is chasing too much, gambling too much...Oh and Takia Starks, Briann January is owning you.

Its hard to imagine the second half will play out like the first. I expect both defenses to knuckle down. No way ASU shoots 67% in this half. That would worry me if I were CTT. ASU has out rebounded A&M and almost matched A&M in turnovers. That would worry me if I was Coach Blair.

Colson is NOT having a good day.

None of the TAMU backcourt is on defense...

Carter's running around like its a Chinese fire drill.

Jimi
03-29-2009, 02:45 PM
WOW! If TAMU is going to sleep on defense and allow consecutive uncontested layups ASU may well shoot 67% in this half too. Zowwie!

Texas A&M is running into their biggest weakness...They still have no concept of strategic, fundamental basketball, and if you put them in a chess game...They can't play.

The smarter team is winning this game.

Jimi
03-29-2009, 02:57 PM
A&M is not showing me any reason to believe they can win this game. Disorganized on defense and one-on-one on offense.

In the mean time Arizona State is showing me good team play on both ends.

On the other hand the game is still within reach.

55-62 ASU at 10:36

All ASU players are doing two things well: shooting lights out and falling down upon any sort of contact.

That last Arizona State basket is a perfect example...Sharp passing. UConn-style passing..

Michaleux....:( :( :( Why throw that pass??? Texas A&M needs to slow down

Arizona State isn't flopping. They are outhustling A&M and outthinking them.

This is not the same Sun Devil team I saw in December. They are going well 'ard right now!

A&M in serious trouble now. Down 10, 1:38 left.

A&M's body language tells the whole tale. Every single ASU basket made results in one to three players in white & maroon hanging their heads.

A&M did not come to the sweet 16 to play this year.

Takia Starks is hurting :(

The Aggies deserve to lose this one. While the way ASU has played they may have sent UConn a message. They won't go quietly.

Big difference between Iowa State and Texas A&M.

Iowa State is a smart basketball team. Texas A&M is not.

84-69 Arizona State final. Congrats ASU on a very good game, especially without Dymond Simon.

They have a history of losing key people and still managing to carry on. Their platoon play (which they've done for years) was the difference.

And their toughness.

I hate saying goodbye to Gant and Starks - they've won my heart over these 4 years and I'm going to love seeing them in the WNBA! Aggies - you were just not tough enough today. I yelled for A&M all game...but now I've got to say

WAY TO GO DEVILS! - NOW GO GET THE HUSKIES!

I just loved the way January plays and Orsillo was great today too. The confidence that Charlie Turner-Thorne has in her team -- her whole team infuses her player's approach!

How did Arizona State lose to Nebraska? That team brought the wood today.

Memo to UConn: Eat your wheaties.

This game surprised me. Texas A&M defense got torched. Even when TAMU caused some loose balls, The ASU kids would hustle to the ball and then they'd keep their composure. That was a big key. There was a play second half, were Starks knocked the ball away from Orsillo...and January scrambled to the ball and got it...But instead of immediately racing back to the offense, she took a couple of seconds...held the ball..assessed what she was seeing and then went back into the fray. Arizona State did that all game. They looked for the extra pass. They played the chess game and found people open. They didn't play into Texas A&M's hand and when you don't play into their hands, then you force A&M to actually have to make plays on offense and execute. If A&M isn't winning one-on-one on the offensive end, they aren't winning the game against a team with solid athleticism fused with the smarts.

Still, a good season for Texas A&M, but a disappointing one.

I sooo wanted Texas A+M to win. I'm disappointed. January was great. So were the Aggies. They were so close throughout most of the game. ASU's substitutions killed them. But still all they had to do was finish. The defense wasn't great, but if they could have just finished on their steals... They gave up in the end and I guess congratulations go to ASU. We'll see how they do against UCONN...Won't we...

TAMU got killed on the boards near the end. Almost every loose ball went ASU's way. The Sun Devils were impressive.

“They were the better basketball team today,” Blair said after Arizona State (26-8) scorched his defensive-minded team for the most points in almost three years. “If they can play at that level, they can give Connecticut a good run, and Connecticut is one of the greatest teams I have ever seen.”

“We’re a program with a team that doesn’t have a lot of swag but has a quiet confidence,” Arizona State coach Charli Turner Thorne said. “We believe in ourselves. We can outwork teams. We’re a great basketball team. We choose to do the things we’re capable of doing. I felt like at the beginning of the year we can win championships.”

“Our kids are just a little disappointed today because that’s not the best that we have,” Blair said. “Hopefully that was the best that Arizona State had because I don’t think they can play any better than they did. Kids stepped up and that’s what this is all about.”

The loss was a bitter one for Starks, Gant and center La Toya Micheaux, who reached the tournament all four years, last year losing to eventual champion Tennessee in the regional final.

“This year we fell kind of short of last year,” Starks said. “That’s OK. They’ll be back next year. We had a great run, a great four years. I’ve loved the atmosphere. Today, we just dropped one.”

Thanks Danielle, TK and La Toya - we're very glad you chose A&M and the Big 12.

Congrats to :TAMU: on a great season. I thought for sure the Aggies would be the team to give UCONN a run for their money. You did the :BIG12: proud!
