Obviously a game interesting to some of us. Tennessee up only 26-25 with under 3 in the first half.

At the half, Ball State 29 and Tennessee 28  Wouldn't want to be in the Baby Vols locker room!

Ball State up 29-28 at the half! Not that I don't think ISU can beat Tennessee -- clearly they can -- but I'd prefer Ball State, no question.

I kinda hope Ball St. doesn't knock Tennessee out. I'd really like the Cyclones to have that honor.

Anyone else catch the comment about the Tennessee trainer's 'unconventional methods' with respect to knee injuries?

I'd rather get Tennessee. Better to have that unique opportunity and see what you can do with it, than to feel as if you might have "backed in" to the Sweet 16.

Dale

My goal is to see Iowa State get as far as they can. I'd rather see Iowa State beat Tennessee than beat Ball State, but I'd even more rather see Iowa State in the Sweet Sixteen than Iowa State not in the Sweet Sixteen. I'll take any advantage we can get. So I'm cheering for Ball State, Michigan State, and whoever's playing Stanford...

It'd be an awesome thing to beat Tennessee, but I wouldn't look at it as backing in if it turns out Ball State wins it. Getting your team as far as it can go is the most important thing. if you get a signature win along the way, great, but if the other way is an easier route, then take it.

At the final four in 2005, many BU fans were rooting for Tennessee to beat Michigan State so we could play them and avenge the previous year in the Sweet 16. I was totally rooting for MSU because I thought they would be easier for us to beat. Revenge would have been cool, but i'd never trade it for a better percentage chance at a championship.

I am sure this is a goofy comment that I should not make, but I think if either Ball State OR Tennessee plays like they are tonight against the Cyclones the Clones will be in the sweet 16.

If Tenn. goes out this early, I would not want to be a member of that Tenn. team. They will have a conditioning program established for them that will be a real doozy!

Ball State up 40-37 at the 12 min. timeout.

or Pat will come with some new brilliant offensive scheme and she'll spend the summer putting those pieces in place and they'll win the NC next year :D

I'm enjoying this game solely because the Tenn fans must be in need of CPR.

I'm guessing right now Coach Fennelly and his assistants have put the Tennessee scouting report aside and are scrambling around trying to find where they laid the Cardinal scouting report. :)

I knew this would happen that if we took care of business Tenn, might not. If you think Ball St. is a gimme for ISU you are sadly mistaken.

59-51 Ball State with the ball at the last TV timeout, and that's after a 5-0 run by Tennessee.

Danielle Gratton is one of the transfers from Illinois during the well documented exodus after the coaching change. Looks like she found a good place to land. Lori Bjork, her roommate at U of I will be eligible at Maryland next season.

I watched the end of their conference tournament and was impressed. I don't know what you'd call it now.

I just got done listening to Kelly Packard...The woman's coaching philosophy is a carbon copy of Bill Fennelly.

"It's all about relationships. We teach building relationship among our team both on the floor and off, and when you build those healthy relationships, you can do so much more as a team."

"I told my kids, its okay to be respectful of Tennessee, and its okay to be in awe of them. You can't talk about womens basketball without talking about Tennessee. But, when we get on that court its about us and we are a little bit gifted, too."

Well Struck, Ball State.
I hope all the doubters and women's basketball ridiculers are watching tonight, and watch Tuesday when those two teams are on the floor. Of course, they won't and its cool! Their opinion isn't worth it..

Porchia Green is one of better defensive players you'll see, but tonight she was attacking on offense.
They beat Tennessee they way you beat them. You make them shoot the ball, and Ball State forced Tennessee to execute and those kids don't have the basketball knowledge. They are athletes, but the fine tuning isn't there right now.

I am looking forward to the Portia Green-Heather Ezell matchup...Aces Wild, BABY!

Well, safe to say that after humiliating Tennessee they're not going to be quaking in their boots about playing Iowa State. They have nothing to lose and they'll have all the confidence in the world. They will be very dangerous.

You know, I couldn't help but think about Tracy Roller tonight.

Going back even further you can trace Ball State's ascendance to Brenda Frese, who absolutely turned that program around on a dime nine years ago. Roller was one of her assistant coaches.

Packard says Roller deserves credit http://media.www.bsudailynews.com/media/storage/paper849/news/2009/03/16/Sports/Womens.Basketball.Packard.Tracy.Roller.Deserves.Cr edit-3672406.shtml

Roller attends Senior night. http://www.thestarpress.com/article/20090305/SPORTS2002/903050372

This has to be a good but bittersweet moment for her, too. Not to downplay the contributions of Frese, but this was entirely different.

I posted this originally in the WNIT second and third round thread, but figured it needed wider coverage.

Oh, Bowling Green should carry a special place in people's thoughts or at least an asterisk. This is the team that was favored to win the Mid-American, but was upset 55-51 by Ball State. I think we do know what happened next.

Mechelle wraps the whole story up in one neat little package. That's a surprise isn't it? http://sports.espn.go.com/ncw/ncaatourney09/columns/story?columnist=voepel_mechelle&id=4007369 She starts out by calling the Ball State win the most historic upset in NCAA tournament history. I'll post this link in the Ball State-Tennessee thread as well. It deserves to be read.

To continue on, she manages to cover Bowling Green, Ball State, Tennessee, plus Bowling Green coach Curt Miller, Kelly Packard, Pat Summitt, Tracy Roller, Kristin Folkl, Vanessa Nygaard, Allison Feaster and a supporting cast of thousands and still manages to wrap it all up in that before mentioned neat package. Well, maybe not thousands. :)

Just who were the announcers for this game anyway?

(assuming you mean Tenn/BSU)

Clay Matvick and Sandy Sharp.

Matvick is apparently a generic ESPNU pbp guy (I don't mean "generic" as an insult - I just mean he does a lot of different sports including football and hockey.)

Sandy Sharp is a former Missouri WBB player. Google is failing me on her. The only "Sandy" who has ever won a letter at Missouri is Sandy Williams (91-94) so it might be her with a married name.

EDIT: This pdf (http://www.freewebs.com/abwasc/Newsletters/September%202007%20Newsletter.pdf) confirms that Sandy Williams (from Missouri WBB) has experience in sports broadcasting, so it was probably her.

EDIT 2: The fourth page of this pdf (http://www.nba.com/media/mediacentral/0203MG_DEN_06.pdf) also.
