Senior Memories

Every year around this time I do a thread where all posters can comment on their teams seniors. ISU didn't have any last year so it's been awhile

My senior comments

Jocelyn Anderson -

Joc has only been here for a couple seasons, but has a special place in the hearts of myself and all ISU fans. Last season when injuries took out two ISU posts it turned Jocelyn a 5 to 10 minutes a game player to starter and she stepped up to the plate and played the season of her life and was a huge reason ISU regrouped the made the NCAA's last year.

Toccara Ross
Toccara or T to ISU fans was also here for a short while. She had a great season as a junior when ISU made the great run to the Big 12 Championship game and a second round trip in the NCAA's. Then as a senior she tore her ACL in the place where the previous season had ended. Luckily for her she was right on the line for a medical reshirt. Here was a case where she was a senior and right on track for graduation, gets hurt and could comeback but could just call it a career. T like most in the situation didn't want her final memory to be a injury. She went through the rehab and came back. Yes T hasn't maybe be the T of old but I glad she is here and I think T's best moments are yet to come.

Amanda Nisleit
Where to start With Amanda. I remember watching a team scrimmage the summer when Amanda, Heather, and Nicky where coming in as freshmen. At that time Amanda was playing the guard position, yes I said guard. I remember watching and thinking Amanda was going to be good. Then her freshman season her and another Minnesotan in this class Gillian Bjerke who I thought would play as well get very little playing time. Amanda also played very little as a sophomore and I feared she might transfer. Then last year
the injuries hit ISU and just like Joc she had to play big minutes for ISU to be in a position to make the big dance. It was also this season when she made the transition to being a post player. Amanda has become the player who does all the dirty work. There's a rebound needed she gets it, if there's a charge to take she takes it. She along with Heather probably will be the one missed most because she is a coach on the floor type of player.

Nicky Wieben
For Nicky I have to start before her ISU days. I remember going to the Iowa Girls Basketball State Tournament in Des Moines. Gillian Goring a player going to UCONN, but that ISU tried to recruit played for Waterloo West faced an Ankeny team which was young and had a center by the name of Nicky Wieben. In that game Ankeny outplayed Waterloo West and Nicky did the same to Miss Goring. I left that game saying that Bill had better sign that Nicky Wieben. Nicky did end up a Cyclone and has had 3 and half solid
years. Then halfway through the season Nicky tore her ACL. She had lost half her junior season. Nicky went through the rehab and has had the senior season I hoped she would. By last season Nicky had gotten the all time ISU block record and this year has added to that record as well as achieving 1,000 points. A few people I sit around are always on Nicky and ticks me off. Nicky was a huge get for ISU and I think some where expecting her to be the next Angie which is so unfair to Nicky. Angie was a once in a time player and there never will be another Angie. Nicky is just trying to be the best Nicky she can and I will never forget what Nicky has done for this program.

Heather Ezell
What all can be said about EZ. I think I could write a book about Heather but I'll keep it brief. For her first two years she played mostly off guard while Lyndsey was the point but played point when Lyndsey was hurt. Then Lyndsey graduated and then it was Heather's team. She and Aus were the glue that held this team together when injuries hit ISU last year. Heather had to more than ever lead this team both with her play on the court and leadership off the court. Heather was the first 1,000 point scorer this season for ISU, and has moved up the three point chart to number 2 and is 13 away from being the career holder. What I'll miss most about Ez is watching her play and shoot in particular because I have never seen a smoother and quicker release on a jump shot than Heather's.

Geez, I feel old. Heather just turned 22 and I finally figured out that indeed I did live in Springfield at the same time as she did. A whole 2 weeks! And just down the street from mighty Kickapoo High School!

I have always enjoyed following Ezell's career and wish her the best. She sure helped out some of my Hoopla teams over the years! Thanks a bunch, Heather!
