Danielle Wilson has gone down hard and now left the court. She won't put any weight on your right leg.

Danielle Wilson will not return for the second half because of a "knee injury" according to Lori Scott Fogleman just now. :(

Well wishes to Danielle Wilson. I certainly hope it's not anything too serious but, having been down the knee injury road a couple of times, I am not real optimistic judging from what I saw when the injury occurred. Hats off to the Bears for gutting it out without their big girl. They wanted it more than we did.
Another pathetic performance by the Longhorns. We were out-hustled and out-willed. These Longhorns just don't seem to have what it takes on a consistent basis. I don't know why I'm surprised. I've pulled in futility on that duck's neck enough that I should know it ain't gonna turn into a swan.

What a blow losing Danielle. Hopefully the news is better than expected, but I'm always a bit of a pessimist in these cases.
I'm very proud of the team for playing tough despite the obvious emotion, and pulling out the win. I was at the softball game and getting updates from a fellow fan, and I pretty much gave up when Texas made the second half run. Glad to see the team didn't.
As GG said, Melissa Jones isn't the fastest kid, or the tallest, or a great leaper, but she's got instincts for the ball and a want-to equal to any player in the league. What a pleasure to watch play.

Lady Bears' victory comes at high price: Wilson suffers possible ligament tear
... Showing equal parts guts and gumption, sixth-ranked Baylor outfought the No. 16 Longhorns, 66-57, before a crowd of 8,159 at the Frank Erwin Center on Saturday. Yet the Lady Bears still suffered a costly loss, as their best player, junior center Danielle Wilson, injured her left knee on a drive to the basket late in the first half.
The scene seemed like a recurring nightmare to Baylor coach Kim Mulkey and the Lady Bears, who lost starting guard Jhasmin Player to a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee in February of last season.
Asked to describe her emotions following the game, Mulkey sat silently for several seconds before speaking, her eyes moist.
“I am emotional,” she said. “Two years in a row now, we’ve lost a key cog of our team to knee injuries. I haven’t seen the replay, I don’t know if she got undercut, I don’t know what happened. It doesn’t matter. For that bunch to go out there and win today, under those circumstances, that’s just a gutsy, gutsy, tough performance today.”
Wilson, Baylor’s leading scorer (15.4 ppg), rebounder (9.7 rpg) and shot-blocker (3.2 bpg), must await further medical evaluation for a final diagnosis on her knee, but Mulkey said the initial assessment from BU’s training staff was that the injury appeared to be to the ACL.
“You know how it is with ACLs,” Mulkey said. “You think what you think, and then you’ve got to get all those tests done. But I’ve been around long enough to know, if a kid’s not hurt, they’ll usually get up.”
... Wilson writhed in agony under BU’s basket for several minutes as Baylor’s trainers attended to her. On the other side of the court, four Lady Bears huddled around Player, who kept her back to Wilson, unable to watch for fear of reliving her own injury, which came in a road game against Kansas State on Feb. 2, 2008.
“In all honesty, Danielle Wilson will be fine, but we’re not stupid,” Player said. “We know the yell, we know the scream. My one-year mark of surgery was yesterday. My teammates did a good job of keeping me focused. Jessica Morrow did a great job of staying in my head and saying, ‘We’re not losing this game today.’ ” ...

Anyone know when we'll hear for certain the extent of the injury? I figure she's seeing a doctor today...

From Brice Cherry's Waco Trib blog:
... At her press conference this afternoon, Baylor coach Kim Mulkey said that Wilson met with doctors Sunday and is being examined further in Dallas today.
“I’m sure she’s doing everything in her power to get back in a uniform and finish out the year,” Mulkey said. “We’ll know something, but I’m not in any hurry and not really ready to know anything.” ...

More from that same post:
“You’re always hopeful,” Mulkey said. “I know as an athlete (at Louisiana Tech) I played in a Final Four with a point guard who had a torn ACL. She put on a brace on that thing and she played her senior year. You just let Danielle go over there with the trainers, talk to the doctors and get the results of all those tests, and make a decision, ‘What is the damage? Can I play, can I rest a couple of weeks before the NCAA starts up?’ I’m sure she’s asking every question imaginable.”
I wonder just what are the ramifications and risks of playing on a torn ACL. I suppose you risk further ACL damage (a tear isn't necessarily a full break) as well as putting additional stress on your other ligaments like the MCL.
I know this is all idle chatter until we know for certain what's going on.

MOst players couldn't play with a damaged ACL, but to some extent it depends on the player. Some athletes are put together so well that they aren't as affected by injury as others.
Walter Abercrombie, a running back at Baylor in the 80's who also played a good bit for the Steelers, found out long after his pro career was over that he had been born without one of the major knee ligaments. I don't remember which one, probably the MCL instead of the ACL, but the muscular structure of his leg was so strong that he was able to play football for years without it affecting his play. Pretty amazing.
Hopefully whatever it turns out to be for Danielle, it responds quickly and she's back to full speed as quickly as possible.

OU's Rosalind Ross found out while she was here at OU that she had been playing with a torn ACL for so long that there was none.
Now, who knows when she tore it, could have been way back in junior high or high school and she did eventually have surgery while she was on the Sparks roster. I don't think she's playing basketball right now, but I'm not certain. She was cut the following season from the Sparks.
