55-40 with 2:06 remaining. There will be no comeback this time. The Buffs have four of their starters in double figures. Bjorkland has 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Reason has been restored to womens hoops in the state of Colorado. Good Job CU!

Final 65-51...

The CSU announcers noted late in the game that it seemed as if the CSU players were flustered and off of their game from the start. They also noted that when CSU needed to cut the lead late in the game and were fouling (they used the term "intentionally fouling") the Buffs late, that the Buffs came through by hitting 10 straight FT's down the stretch.

Very good win for the Buffs. I'm starting to think that people shouldn't be too quick to count them out in the conference race this year. They seem to have a lot of weapons and better versatility this year.

I agree Colorado is a solid team. In addition to a good opponent the current Buff players also had to overcome the mental factor of not having beaten the Rams. I'm really glad to see the Buffs get this win.

It was one of the Buffs' top defensive performances in recent memory. They did indeed fluster the Rams all night. CSU had 19 points at the half and was never able to get on track. Over the previous three seasons CSU's Ashley Augspurger and Elizabeth English had bedeviled the Buffs. Not tonight! Augspurger was 2-12 from the floor, including 0-6 from behind the arc. English hit her first trey with 1:44 left and the game efectively over.

CSU also played outstanding defense -- especially on Tera Bjorklund. No one this season has taken her out of the game as effectively. Still she ended up with 14 points.

The Buffs were the better conditioned team and it showed in the last five minutes. Their physical defense also wore the Rams down all game.

The Colorado line-up looks solid and surprisingly experienced, considering how many minutes last year's seniors played. Next year's line-up looks solid as well. One thing that surprises me is that Colorado did not sign a post player this fall to begin playing behind Tera Bjorklund next year. It is hard to imagine the Colorado offense without a tall center. Does Randy Wirt sub for Bjorklund this year?

Currently, Randie Wirt is backing Tera up, but she is more of a natural power forward. When CU has Bjorklund, Wirt, Scott, Fagan, and Lappe in the game at the same time, there is a lot of experience on the floor despite the loss of last year's Big 4.

CU does have one true center on the roster besides Tera. Her name is Cecily Jones from Katy, TX. She is 6'3" and very athletic. She is coming off of two surgeries on her knee due to an ACL tear her senior year oh high school.

I would expect CU to sign another post in the spring signing period, maybe an international player. I know that they really wanted Liz Sherwood (6'5") from Highlands Ranch, but UConn got her.

One thing that the is very apparent this year is that CU is much more athletic, and has a lot more team speed than they have had in the past. This created a lot of problems for CSU last night...especially the on-ball pressure by Stafford, Billingsley, and Johns-Richardson.

That was a good game. CSU came clawing and scratching back into it to tie it up at 35 with about 10 to play, and when Colorado absolutely had to get it done, they did. A 10-2 that turned into a 20-5 run and that was it. That's not something they have always been able to do.

It's too bad CU won't face a ranked opponent until at K-State in January. That will be an incredibly difficult game for the Buffs to win, and right now they could go into the conference schedule 10-1 with wins over USC, Syracuse and Buffalo, which are by no means going to be cake walks, but I think are winnable for them.

Until that K-State game, they aren't going to get a sniff of a chance at getting into the polls.

And PS. They play defense the way you'd expect Ceal Barry teams to play defense. And it's the first time since 1996-97 that this is true.

That certainly was one of the Buffs' better defensive errorts in recent seasons. It makes me wonder what would have happened in the Villanova game had they had a day or two to impliment a game plan. I certainly never would have thought that CU could have shut down both Augspurger and English. Those two have really hurt the Buffs in the past three seasons. Both were non-factors offensively last night.

Wasn't it ironic that CU used a three pointer to break the game open :-)

It is too bad that CU doesn't have a ranked team on the schedule until KSU. It seems the Buffs could be 11-1 going into that critical matchup. They have USC in Boulder on the 21st and then road games at Syracuse and Buffalo prior to opening the conference schedule with ISU in Boulder.

As much as I loved the defense last night I am worried about a few aspects of the offense. One is that the point guards really struggle from the perimeter. If they were a threat from three point range it would really open the game up. Also, there were a number of times, prior to the 35-35 tie when CU could have gotten their lead to or near double digets, but every time they would fail to execute and.or commit an unforced turnover.

Concerning recruiting a post ... the Buffs certainly need to sign a talented one in the spring as well as a power forward. They were in on some big names in the fall but lost out to Stanford, UCONN, Vanderbilt and Minnesota. Apparently they are looking at Europeans for the spring signing period.

Looking at the team over the next several seasons they should be loaded at guard. So what they need now is to start signing talented front court players.
