The mighty are struggling. Women's College Hoops asked the following poll question: which of these teams is the most disappointing at this point in the season? No one's pain is more evident than the Twister Sisters who not only have lost to unranked teams; which are in-state rivals; they also have not shown capable guard play which was supposed to be a stength this year. The combination suggests a very poor season unless things turn around. How does Texas feel about their losses and rest of the season?
Georgia 3-2
Iowa St. 1-3
NC State 3-4
Old Dominion 1-4
Rice 2-4
St Joseph's 2-3
Texas 2-2
Wisconsin 1-5

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but the general feeling is guarded optimism. Our team is figuring out how to play like a team and our potential is starting to show through the rough spots.
Lots of disappointment about the early losses, but they were early and give us a chance to see where we need to improve. Last nights game highlighted where we want to go.

Yes, I can go with guarded optimism. I think the team can be very good this year and even better next year. I’m pretty optimistic that Texas will have a better conference record this year than it has the past couple of years.

I think most fans, and Big 12 Conference fans, underestimated the stabilizing influence of seniors Kenya Larkin and Tracy Cook last year. If anything, this Longhorn team is younger than I can remember. They read too much of their hype and the got caught up in the whole TJ thing and then got their butts whipped at BYU. They should have won in New Mexico but got a little rattled (like this hasn't happened to other teams playing at the Pit.) Last year's team had some bad losses, but not early on. This team is getting better every game. By Big 12 time they are going to be more than ready, if they don't get down on themselves.

grojc I agree about underestimating the impact of Kenya and Tracy last year. We have to find another scoring threat in the paint to replace Tracy's lost point. I think Hastings and Williams will get there, but it has been harder to get there than people thought it would be.

I don't know about Georgia's losses so can't comment on them, but I have a hard time thinking Texas belongs in this group. Texas lost on the road in two very tough places. Then they go home and look like world-beaters. Being 2-2 raises no eyebrows for me. But Iowa State's 1-3 does. They've lost at home to Drake, badly to Iowa on the road, and then even to Northern Iowa. That raises eyebrows.

I don't feel like taking the time to see who Old Dominion's losses were to either - but that also seems a bit shocking.
