Why does WBB run such a deficit, and wrestling does not?

Admittedly Coaches' salaries are higher, but that should be about the only thing. Checked out the OU site.

31 wrestlers on the roster (over double the number of scholarships)

Head Coach, 3 assistants

22 regular season matches plus Big XII and NCAA tournaments

Zilch revenue produced!

So how could WBB cost so much more?

Soonerman, I am also a little confused about these huge deficits. Do you know what the budgets are for Wrestling and Women's Basketball at OU?

soonerman---I'm fairly sure that wrestlers generally don't get full schollies. Some might, but I'd be willing to bet that those 31 on the roster only take up 14 or 15 scholarships, if that many.

If any of the "smaller" programs "break even", I would be very surprised....and I call "smaller programs" anything other than football and basketball.

There's an article in today's paper about OU's wrestling coach had a heart attack last week. Seems to be ok.....his words, "I will be fine with medication and eating tasteless food the rest of my life".

Ncaa Div 1 Wrestling allows only 9 scholarships.
