Nebraska pounded Texas Southern monday night to improve to 3-2 on the season. The Huskers 'rebounded' after a dissapointing loss to Creighton and a spirited comeback that just fell short against Drake. NU totally dominated in the paint, and at times they looked pretty good.

I was a little worried when Jina Johanson picked up her third foul with about 7 minutes left in first half, but the Huskers used their superior height in the post to coast to an easy victory. All three of NU's post players posted double-doubles and NU outrebounded the Tigers by over 20.

Although the Huskers lost to Drake, I think they gained some momentum ftom that game. Against Drake, Nebraska erased a 25 point halftime deficit and cut the Bulldogs' lead to 4 with 30 seconds left to play. Even though Drake eventually pulled it out, the Huskers got a standing ovation from the fans, and drew praise from the Drake coach. It is this kind of heart and never-say-die attitude that makes me confident in Coach Yori. Drake coach Lisa Stone said that it was only a matter of time before Yori got NU back to the top. But back to the Southern game...

Some of the highlights were:
Amanda Cleveland pulled down a career high 15 rebounds (!) and also chipped in 10 points. AC continues to totally amaze me with her play. She is living proof that with hard work and determination a person can overcome anything, and she truly is an inspiration

After fouling out with over 9 minutes to play vs. Drake, Alexa Johnson came back with a very solid outing. Fifteen points and 11 rebounds later, Lex is back on track. She is going to have to carry a heavy load for NU this year, but she really is starting to remind me of Charlie Rogers with her hard work and hustle.

Game Ball: Definately goes to Katie Morse. The junior center poured in 25 points and 10 rebounds, and she very easily could have had 35 or 40. Katie played aggressive, which is a very good thing. She made everything outside of 10 feet (including a three), and if she would've finished better under the basket, she would've put up amazing numbers.

All in all, this was a good game for NU to get back on track. The Huskers would be a major force in the SWAC! Next up is lowly Cal State Fullerton, so NU should be on a 2 game winning streak when Cincy rolls into town on Sunday.

Thanks for the Nebraska report.

Ah, Charlie Rogers. I remember when Charlie Rogers, Nicole Kubik, and Brooke Schwartz (?) graduated. A lot of people seemed to think little of the departure of those players. In my recollection, Sanderford seemed to be excited because the players not recruited by him were gone. He was going to get to coach his type of team which, I believe, was going to be more athletic and uptempo. No one dreamed (nightmared?) how things would unravel.

It is great to see what she has been able to accomplish on the court this season. I notice that she has played no less than 24 minutes in each game. She truly is an inspiration.
