KU (4-1) won the first showdown ( on Fri night against Texas Southern (2-2) to advance to the championship game on Sat. "For the second game in a row, sophomore Aquanita Burras accounted for nearly half of Jayhawks' scoring in the first half, netting 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Burras finished with a game-high 18 points, adding seven rebounds and five steals." "KU freshman Tamara Ransburg had a game-high 10 rebounds and five blocks, to go with eight points."
On Sat, lost by 2 (48-46) against Western Illinois (4-2). Looking sluggish and shooting poorly, the Jayhawks just missed this one. The inside game wasn't there. "Tournament MVP Aquanita Burras led the Jayhawks in scoring for the third straight game, tallying a game-high 19 points and six steals. The sophomore concluded the tournament scoring 37 points on 5-of-7 shooting from three point range, adding 11 steals." Blair Waltz was the other player in double figures (11).
In both games, Freshman Erica Hallman is starting to step up and contribute as well.
Next game is Wed at Wichita State.
