Another big win over an overmatched opponent. I thought the team looked much improved and Conradt was pretty positive in her post game comments. Last night's shooting percentage of 58% seems more appropriate against an overmatched team than the 42.7% that the team shot against McNeese State.

The Longhorns featured a new starting line-up of Jamie Carey, Tai Dillard, Kala Bowers, Heather Schreiber, and Stacy Stephens. I like it. Every player in this line-up is a complete player. Heather is adjusting to playing inside more.

Stephanie Thiel saw her first action and did what she does, knock down a couple of shots. She and Jana Jesperson, who was added to the team a couple of weeks ago, executed a fine fast break ending with a basket by Thiel.

Tamra Cobbins is lots of fun to watch. She will be Texas' entry into the quick guards derby. Where her quickness really shows is on defense. She also flys out of nowhere to get rebounds.

I was glad to see Stacy Stephens have a good game before heading to New Mexico. I really hope she can stay out of foul trouble against the Lobos.

Saturday should tell us a lot about the character and chemistry of this year's squad. It may be the most hostile evironment that the team faces this year and it will provide a chance to redeem themselves for the showing at BYU. Routing McNeese St. and SWT in the friendly confines of the Erwin Center is one thing. Going on the road against a solid team and 10,000+ fans is another.

My main concern is the free throw shooting. It seems to be developing into a big collective mental block early in the season. We will need to hit those against New Mexico, especially if it's a close game. The secondary concern is that neither Hastings or Williams seem to be adequately asserting themselves in the post, requiring Schreiber to adjust to playing there. Schreiber has been very effective at the '3'.

I predict the 'Horns will put it together Saturday and escape with a close one.
