oh no, Jimi........double shucks http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/frown.gif
I don't know... it's early in the season and games away from home can be difficult. I was listening to the OU game and didn't even follow along with the KSU/Stanford game. OU was in a dogfight at the end.
This has been a crazy day of basketball, I followed the Duke/Arkansas game that went into OT...Arkansas is ranked 15 and stayed with them the whole way. unranked South Carolina beat Boston College.....Georgia got whipped big time by a non-ranked opponent.
and the dang OU football team looked like they were snoozing in the Bahama's http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

This was one hell of a basketball game. The differential was 2 at halftime and the teams swapped leads the entire second half. Stanford would spurt and go up by six and K State would rally and take the lead by six. With the score tied at 50, there was a terrible collision under the K State basket which knocked Stanford guard Susan King out cold. Stanford coach Vanderveer called on freshman Connecticut player of the year, freshman Krista Rappahan, to shoot the free throws.... Nothing but net..twice. On the next series KSU turned the ball over and then fouled Rappahan. Count two more.
The all tournament team named Kendra Wecker and Megan Mahoney from KSU and Azella Perryman and Sebnem Kimyacioglu from SU and Kelly Suminski and Nicole Ohlde were named co-most valuable players.
Kodak all American and Naismith player of the year nominee, Nicole Powell did not play due to a continuing back problem.
KSU played extremely well both against the Temple Owls and against the Cardinal. In the end, Stanford executed just a tiny bit better than the wildcats. You have a great team, and I wish them well until we meet again in the tournament.

Nice Job, Krista!!! NFA Representin' on the West Coast!!!! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
Tough game K-State, but you fought the Borg all the way so no shame!!
But its just shows to go ya, Kansas State is a wee bit overrated.

I haven't quite mastered your humor ChipperF1, but surely you jest.
KSU played Stanford close the whole way and lose to a Top 10 team on their home court. Doesn't sound like KSU is overrated one bit. Let Stanford come to Manhattan, I'm sure the outcome could easily be reversed.
As Swok34 mentioned, Duke needed overtime to beat Arkansas. Is there really a dominant team out there?
Shoot, even severely depleted Oklahoma beat a Top 10 team at a neutral site.

I agree with Chipper's assessment. K-State is maybe just a WEE bit overrated...just a wee bit. Not a lot. no question they are a top 10, maybe even a top five team...but not No. 2. Not yet.

No I "do not jest". Kansas State is a solid team, and will contend in the Big 12, but a Final Four contender? I don't see it and I've said it from the beginnining of the season.
Stanford, playing without their best gun, and a suspect inside game out executed Kansas State. Once again that ugly Wildcat vulnerability was exposed. The Borg assimilated Kansas State's backcourt hindered the combat effectiveness of the USS Nicole Ohlde and the USS Kendra Wecker. Kill the roots (the K-State guards) the flower (Ohlde) dies.
KSU is a top 10-15 team but a Final Four contender WINS a game like that. Duke got a close shave, but they won the ballgame.
Temple and Stanford played aggressive against the K-State guard and it paid off. Koehn, Dominieco and the rest of the backcourt have to stay frosty and meet aggression with aggression. At times both shy away rather than engage.
I didn't say Kansas State was crap. I was saying that they have a way to go before you make plans for a Clay Center-to-Hotlanta caravan.
On the Stanford side. Bulldog Kimyacioglu. Make a note of her, she's a good one.
"Let Stanford come to Manhattan, I'm sure the outcome could easily be reversed.
For the record: If you fancy yourself a Final Four contender, you'll beat God in Heaven and Satan in Hell in back-to-back games.

Nicole Ohlde had only one rebound in over 30 minutes of play?Hmmm.

Chipper-it's too bad you have to stoop to such immaturity in calling Tara VanDerveer "Borg", otherwise, your bball posts would have some credibility. Is that a guy thing or a UConn thing?

Actually, I call the whole team the Borg, not just Tara (Tara="Borg Queen"). And actually the nickname is homage to the very high-tech precise style of the Stanford attack. When Stanford is on their marks, they are exactly like the cybernetic nightmare of Star Trek fame. As Kansas State learned in Unimatrix Maples, "Resistance Is Futile".
As for what "thing" is it. Its not a "UConn" thing or a "guy" thing It's strictly a Chipper thing. Unless you have a sense of humor or a sense of irony, you wouldn't understand.
Welcome back to our little sandbox Cardinal. Sheesh, I give love to Stanford (especially Kimyacioglu) and you are still unhappy. You whine like a Democrat. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

well, okay then. Sebmen K. and the Cardinal appreciate your love Chipper. She is a very special player, as is Susan King.
Do you still think OU will beat Stanford at Maples? Powell will probably not play and I wouldn't be surpised if she red shirted.

I don't know, Cardinal.......your guess is probably as good as mine.
I'm still in shock the way OU responded to North Carolina last night.
One thing can be said for early-season injuries, it not only gives the player the opportunity to have the year back; but it also gives the team the opportunity to develop their character and chemistry without relying on their "star". OU and Stanford both seem to have responded to the challenge. Congratulations on Stanford's win, I was impressed to see Stanford win without Powell playing.

I agree Swok. Great "character" wins for both OU and Stanford. I was sad to see Hill get hurt. She's a very special player, but OU has responded well.
Stanford may have trouble handling OU's back court speed, but OU will have their hands full trying to defend Stanford's 3 point shooters. I'd give the slight to Stanford because of them playing at home. I don't expect Powell to play.
Kudos to the Stanford players and coaches. They had a good game plan and executed it well.
I am still very proud of the Wildcats and will be leaving in an hour to go see them play at Bramlage. At this rate we may play as many games as the KU men do. Nah, no way. It seems every time I turn on the TV Roy and the boys are on.
I think the combination of 40 minutes of hard basketball for three of our starters v. Temple on Friday while Stanford had a laugher contributed to our showing BUT, while I would phrase it a little less colorfully I pretty much agree with Chipper. All the extranious stuff like prior games, home courts etc. has to be set aside. You have to overcome it and win anyway no matter the conditions.
Stanford earned this win with hard agressive play from start to finish. I also apreciate the fact that they gave credit where it was due to K-State both before and after the game unlike some folks we have played. Good luck to the Cardinal till we meet again. (with the exception of the OU game)
GO SOONERS!!!!
The WBB game this coming Friday has been moved up from 7pm to 5pm. While I love the reason (K-State Volleyball hosting a NCAA tourney) I am very bugged by the change. We have employees with paid for tickets that will NOT be able to get there for a 5pm game on a work day. I will have to bug out early myself to make it but that is one of the perks of being on salary and able to "flex" time. There has to be a better way than to disregard the 6,500 season ticket holders and others who have already bought tickets. This won't do much for attendance.
Go Wildcats!!! Go Big 12!!!

Thanks for your comments jerboa, and welcome to the board.
Is Kansas State overrated? Well, maybe for now they should be #4-6 instead of #2. Can they make the Final Four? Keep in mind that they are still very young and rapidly developing (see how Mahoney and Madden are coming along quicker than expected). With this great early-season experience, they should be extra tough the rest of the way. I expect them to contend for a one-two seed with good chances for Elite Eight and maybe even Final Four.
And if not this season, how about NEXT year?

As I watched the Stanford-KSU game I couldn't help but think that both these teams could be competing at a very high level the next couple years. Of the 10 total starters, only 1 was a junior (Ohlde)and there were no seniors.
Both teams are gaining great experience for young players by playing tough opponents. By the way, I was at the game (I'm a Stanford fan) and it was an excellent match-up.
