Nebraska...you did good 71-56 over Rice. According to Yahoo, a sign in the arena read "Forty-Minute Huskers. One-Minute Rice."
The story on Yahoo mentioned that Morse fouled out with 5 or so minutes to go and during that time, NU increased the lead from 9 to 17. This with 5 scholarship players. Coach Yori was pleased how well the Huskers followed the game plan and played good defense.
If the Huskers continue to play like this, they will lose some..but they'll have a season to be proud of. My preseason pick for the Fighting Heart award!
Good job Nebraska. Go big Red!

2-0? YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Player of the game vs. Rice: Amanda Cleveland. 35 minutes, 15 points and 9 rebounds.
You can just see the difference. They are believing in themselves, and more importantly They believe in EACH OTHER!!! This Nebraska team is a team again, and I give credit to these kids. Those who have stayed have truly made themselves champions so far.
Next: Creighton, and that is a lot more interesting now.

A solid win. Very interesting. I look forward to learning more about this Nebraska team.

NU may have had its best game against Creighton last year. Yori has an advantage of knowing the personnel. CU will be without starting guard, Finch, who broke a hand. Could well be a W for NU which would be a far better start than most expected. Really makes one doubt Sanderford's coaching.

Amanda Cleveland may have deserved the game ball, but Jina Johanson can also make a very strong claim. She posted 15 points, 9 assists, and a minimal number of turnovers, and she played the entire 40 minutes. It was also another great outing for Alexa Johnson, who in the first two games averaged 22.5 ppg! Margaret Richards also played well.
I don't even recognize these players. They play with so much more poise and tenascity than last years team. On Sunday, Nebraska played intense defense all game long, and physically dominated Rice. Nebraska MADE 31 free throws and shut down the Owls' post game. Nebraska only attempted 1 3-pointer, and all of the shots the Huskers took were pretty high %.
Connie Yori and her staff have impressed me so much with their passion and fire, and it has really rubbed off on the players. In the OWH, Amanda Cleveland said that she had never felt so good about herself. She said that she is amazed everyday by what she and her teamates are able to accomplish, and that their chemistry couldn't be better.
What a difference a year can make.
I'm heading up to the old Civic Auditorium this weekend to see the Huskers take on Creighton, and I won't be at all surprised if Nebraska takes down the Jays. The key for NU will be guarding the perimeter players (losing Finch really hurts CU) and totally dominating the paint. Foul trouble will also be a concern for Nebraska, and the refs up in Omaha have a history of being a little too active. It should be a great game.

Too active? You mean they were out of position all game long like the officials who work Devaney Center? lol!

With all officiating issues aside, who do you think will win Chipper?
