Yes, yes, I know. Only 1 game. The Aggies lost to Northwestern State last night. Northwestern State is decent, but you are never going to convince me that A&M shouldn't always beat them.

I'm wondering if Gillom might be getting the axe after this season. First of all, these are the records (season, Big 12 conference) for A&m over the past 4 season in Gillom's tenure.

'98-'99: 7-20, 2-14
'99-'00: 11-16, 3-13
'00-'01: 12-16, 2-14
'01-'02: 13-16, 5-11

Pretty bad. At least they improved last season, but very marginal improvement and still not enough to even be considered for the postseason WNIT.

Lots of talk here in Norman about Slocum (A&M football coach) possibly getting the boot after this season because A&M has brought in a new AD. Wonder if he won't be cleaning house in other areas of the Athletic Programs as well.

A&M can and should do so much better than they have recently. Being a major college and in Texas - there should be no excuse for not challenging to go to the NCAA tourney nearly every season.

Have to wonder about the whole athletic program at A&M. What do they succeed at? I think they have a halfway decent baseball program. But your bread and butter programs - those that can support other programs are always going to be football and basketball. They've been mediocre to good forever in football - but never challenging to be an elite Top 10 team. They've been atrocious forever in basketball. They can and should do better.

A&M is a one sport school. It is clear that they barely even care for their men's basketball team. They could care even less about the women's team. With the new AD, the program might pick up but A&M will always be 99% focused on football.

I amazes me that a school of that size, excellent facilities and financial resources, doesn't field better basketball teams. Even the football team has produced sub-par over the past few years. I think changes are a coming.

There was a tv report tonight that Bill Byrne, AD at NU will interview for the A&M spot. Bill's approach is to use football money to by coaches and facilities for the other sports. Seems to have worked pretty well, so far.

In women's sports, A&M has very good Volleyball and Soccer programs.

I don't know if Gillom's job is in danger but it probably should be. With Nebraska's new spirit and Kansas' influx of talent, A&M could be competing with OSU to stay out of 12th place in the conference again this year. I don't see any signs of strong recruiting either.

Northwestern is picked to win the Southland conference this year. In the next couple of weeks, NW plays at UCLA and Arkansas (that could be ugly). I'll be watching to see what happens in these games. Last year NW had wins over Stephen F Austin and a down Rutgers team.

Gillom is well liked and respected by those in charge at Texas A&M. I think they are concerned about who they could get to replace her if they indeed made a change. You would have to think that they'd be forced to gamble on a somewhat unknown coaching commodity whom would be willing to deal with the lack of support and trying to recruit in this conference!!
