Just got back from Tulsa, have read everyone's comments, and will add mine from seeing the games first hand.

1. Allison Curtain should be the Naismith winner! I've seen Beard, I've seen Taurasi but this girl is much better offensively that either of those. She is the reincarnation of Jackie Stiles! You can't keep her from getting a shot off, and if she gets if off, it goes in.

2. That said, still the fact is that OU struggled to beat a team that got hammered by Mississippi State. Tulsa played a pressure man-to-man, and OU had no semblance of an offense. Those who (like me) hoped that after a couple of games all these new perimeter players were going to start looking like the 3 WNBA picks of last year can forget it. Forget beating UConn in Hawaii, forget beating Stanford in January, it's going to be a long winter. The progress of these girls is going to be two steps forward and one step back for a while.

3. After a long winter, it could be a very bright Spring! The talent is obvious, the attitude is there, and this coaching staff is working on the right things first; like defense. They got the lead against Tulsa by putting together some team offense and posting Chelsi up out of the motion game. The kept the lead down the stretch by having Senior attitudes - they were absolutely cool - handled the ball, made good passes, made the free throws, played good defense - did everything you would expect a more experienced team to do to win a tight game.

4. ORU the second night was a good contrast. Facing a zone defense all night, they got a lot of experience passing, looking for each other, and generally running offense. Lots of people played, and it was obvious that playing time is pretty well based on defense.

5. Nebraska will NOT finish in last place in the conference. OSU showed no signs of being able to play division one ball. No defense at all, no intensity, not much offense. For the Cowgirls, it's going to be a long winter followed by a worse spring.

Ok, I will give you UCONN. But I will never admit that Stanford will beat us. Never. And if they do, I still won't admit it.

Well, after watching Washington, supposedly the number two team in the PAC-10, get drubbed by Tech, I think maybe our babies can compete against Stanford!

I would rate Washington somewhere between Tulsa and Oral Roberts; probably closer to Oral Roberts - the most passive defense I've seen in a long time. Not to take anything away from Tech, who played brilliantly. If Stanford is really good then they are alone in that league.

I agree with cynic, though Stanford could be an entirely different team with Powell playing. I didn't get to watch much of the Connecticut game yesterday, because I was really into the KSU/Penn State game.....though sounds as though UConn played really well. Oklahoma may have some problems getting past North Carolina and never make it to the Connecticut game.

I still think it's too early to know much of anything about teams. Did anyone watch Duke yesterday?......I think right now there is Duke, then there is everyone else. If memory serves me right, Duke always comes out and plays strong right from the beginning. And having so many key players back is also a huge factor for them. Alana Beard, wow!

Teams look so, so much different even in late December than they do right now......I liked what I saw in OU, they are improving AND that's what matters at this time of the year. Villarroel and Welch both showed me in Saturday nite's game what so many are talking about. OU hasn't even played an official game at home yet. When they interviewed Geno yesterday on ESPN, he made the comment with a very young team, that it would be really nice to have your first 3/4 games AT home. OU hasn't had that yet, opening up tomorrow nite vs Sam Houston State......then, they get tossed back in the fires in Hawai'i. I recall three years ago, OU used to be a terrible "opening" team; and struggled with early games. Last year vs Purdue being the exception, though even there, both Dales and Caufield were in foul trouble.

Do I think OU is a Final Four team? No, and I've never said that I do. If I had to slate a year right at this minute, I'd say 2005 when Jackson is a senior.
