It was a day for the newcomers

Erin set a new Tech record for most assists by a freshman...14.

Mik Tennal...for you doubters we'll keep her! A massive 3 pt shot from half court to end the first half. 13 minutes, 6 pts, 5 assists.

LaToya Davis...whom Coach Sharp called the best rebounder on the team.. played 15 minutes, 14pt (4-5), 5 boards..

and on it goes.

Tech had 27 assists, 41 rebounds and shot 54%. I was most impressed by the defense and the speed. When you can beat a good zone defense down the court, the world's your oyster. Great all around game for Tech.

I was most impressed by Washington's grit and sportsmanship...they had some runs and continued to battle. There was hard, physical and fair play. A well coached team with a nice zone defense and some great long range shooters, they're going to make some noise in the PAC 10.

I agree Bball girl. Washington played good, hard, clean ball and
really good zone defense. Tech just played a great game today. Everyone who played, played the way I knew they could after seeing them in practise. They even ran several of the plays the way Marsha had drawn them up...unlike those alien body snatchers wearing Lady Raider uniforms in the opener against La Tech.

The rebounding! The hustle after loose balls! It just did my old heart good to see it.

I love me some LaToya Davis! I think she will be huge down the stretch of Big XII play. I hope Cisti, with her size, can find some of that heart and tenacity and toughen up a little. She's made some progress, but still not where I thought she'd be. Erin can definately make her a star with that lob pass over the top if she can pin her defender and call for the ball, like she did early in the second half--very nice.

It's good to see a smile on their face, unlike last year.

Most impressive! Erin Grant just looks so smooth. As one who doubted before she played, I have to say she is the real deal.

And this slaughter, along with KState's drubbing of USC, exposes the PAC-10 as being the weak sisters they are.

Good win, Raiders. I'll have to agree with the Tech fans' early excitement over Erin Grant. She looks to be something special. Latoya Davis impressed me as well.

Hope my Horns can bounce back from a season-opening loss in similar fashion.

Total team effort today by Texas Tech. I'm proud of them in that they kept the defense aggressive the entire game. If the Lady Raiders can balance offense and defense every game like they did in this one, then they will be virtually unstoppable. Remember, this Washington team is supposed to be a very good team and voted to finish 2nd in the PAC 10 behind Stanford.

Eye Popping Stat of the Day
Texas Tech Point Guard position: 19 assists, 3 turnovers!
That is efficiency!

Bevo, I bet that McNeese St in the Erwin Center will be just what the doctor ordered for what ails the Longhorns. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

Hopefully it will be a good thing for both Tech and Texas to play less than steller in those first road games. (1) It will keep them humble. (2)It will keep them ranked a bit lower in the polls, which will.....see (1).
