....but it sure was entertaining. The Lady Bears won the Women's Sport Foundation tournament tonight in Waco with a win over Alcorn State. Princeton won the consolation game over Southwest Texas.

One of the brightest spots in the tournament was the play of freshman post player Sophia Young. She has great leaping abilities and she really pulled down some big rebounds and made some terrific plays around the basket. Her ability to cut off the passing lanes is also one of her strong suits. Considering she has played with a broken left hand that is heavily bandaged, I am anxious to she her at 100%. She is very quick and does a good job at blocking out. Definitely one of the best freshmen players I have seen in a long time.

As everyone knows, Baylor has a lot of youth on the team and most folks will be surprised at how well they will do this season.

Good tournament for Melanie Hamerly, who posted 15 points and 9 rebounds in Friday's 86-47 defeat of Princeton, then contributed 4 blocks and 3 steals to the 78-62 title-game victory. Hope she's had a happy 20th birthday this 24th day of November. You can find a link to Melanie's bio on my perpetual work-in-progress of a page:
