When CP3 made her 100th consecutive DD there was a discussion here about whether or not the streak had become too important. I just found what SHE said about the 99th:

She talks about other great athletic accomplishments and then writes:

**************
You know, my streak really isn't all that hard, now that I think of it.

I have had amazing guards get me the ball, a wonderful coaching staff to learn from, encouragement and support.

In our game last week against Creighton, we were in the final minutes and I hadn't yet scored 10 points. My whole team starts saying we got to get her the ball. Danielle (Robinson) makes a great play and catches me on an extra pass and there it is -- number 99.

The whole crowd erupts like it's the game winner and, watching film the next day with Coach Coale, I noticed our bench and my teammates standing up and cheering for me.

I'm certain that those other guys couldn't have had it as easy as I have.

I think my streak will certainly end or be broken, but my appreciation for the people who helped me get it will never go away.

The complete blog write up is the Dec 10th entry at:

I read that earlier, but I think it's time to stop counting.

The newspaper writers have been taking the easy way out. They just start their articles by blaring out things like CP has 1XXth double-double! CP doesn't get double double until last minute! CP in foul trouble and in danger of not getting a double-double.

Oh, yeah, and there was a game on, too.

It's good and it's fantastic, but I just don't see how EVERY article has to mention it. Just my opinion.

I'm in favor of it going away.

The reason I say that is that I think there is way too much emphasis on the DD by the fans, and the team. I don't think it 's good for a team to have a "focus" like that.

Now, would she probably continue to get a DD, probably. 10 and 10 is not that difficult a feat for Courtney.

I wouldn't mind a bit having the streak broken - BUT - here is the question: against whom?

Look at the remaining games and tell me which opponent should get the "honors"

(Ok - this is NOT a fair question - but I tried answering it and .....)

Does the team focus on it in close games? I think it's secondary except in games where we have a sizable lead towards the end of the game and CP is missing a basket or rebound. I doubt that anyone gave it much thought during the Cal game.

I definitely agree with that MsProudSooner.

I think deep down though most everyone would like to see it continue especially if the Sooners continue to win. I know when I get to see the Sooners on the tube I have a keen interest in how many points and rebounds she has. Can you imagine what the post game press conference would be like should the streak get snapped.
