K-State did much of their work in the paint and only had 3 three pointers. Wecker had 24 points & 12 rebounds, Ohlde 19 & 10, Koehn 17 & 3, Mahoney 6 & 6 plus 8 assists and 3 steals. Chelsea Domenico was back and played 9 minutes. She is clearly not quite up to full strength yet but she is getting close. It was good to have her back.

USC was physical and athletic and played good defense. The Refs were in pre-season rather than mid-season form but were more or less crummy for both sides. Chris Gobrecht did earn herself a technical. Attendance was 4,689 which must have been enough because we are HOSTING Penn State at 4pm on Sunday for the Championship!!! Tickets on sale at 8am tomorrow.

eeek! 29 turnovers! I'm sure that'll be better under control by January (if not sooner).
Also saw that Madden was a monster on the boards (14 I think).

Wecker vs. Mazzante should be an interesting matchup.

There's been some talk about depth issues with Kansas State.....
I think in that regard, "foul trouble" could become a key issue.
I was watching the stats last night and I think 3 starters had 2 fouls in the 1st half......Patterson was smart to pull at least two of them...
Mahoney and Madden both fouled out, though at the end of the game and Wecker ended the game with 4.

I'm really impressed with Wecker's rebounding numbers....doesn't she play a wing when both Ohlde and Madden are in the game?

On the plus side, a 51 to 32 rebounding margin. USC should be ashamed. It is early but the front court of Madden, Wecker, Ohlde is looking pretty formidable. K-State also got a few extra minutes out of their reserves in this one. Unfortunately, I may not be able to watch any of the televised basketball games on Sunday.

With Chelsea back and seeing better play from Amy Dutmer, Kimmery Newsome and Jessica McFarland I am much less worried about depth than I was before the season. In point of fact all these kids have shown they can play D1 ball. Ohlde played all 40 minutes but the next highest was 33. Then we had two with 30.

In the context and flow of the game I was not as upset by the 29 turnovers as I would be if I had to rely on the stats alone. Some of the TO's game from Domenico trying to work back into the offense and some from other reasons that I don't think are systemic or uncorrectable. USC focused on Ohlde and neither got her stopped or was able to deal with both her and Wecker at the same time. As they tried, Brie "Rodman" Madden killed them on the boards. I also think that its a good thing if you can learn to win ugly. Not playing ugly is better, but at least this team is learning to cope even when their play is ugly.

Congratulations KSU! Really want you to win the WNIT...another feather in the Big XII cap.

You mean Chris Gobrecht got only one technical? Sorry, she is NOT one of my favorite coaches.

Thanks for your good wishes against Washington. The Lady Raiders looked great in practise yesterday, but what do I know? I thought they looked great before we played La Tech.

Congratulations KSU and good luck on Sunday. Let's have some Big 12 wins against the Big 10, the Pac 10 and the Mountain West. Am I missing any?

I think if she was a Big XII coach and we saw her every year I could work up a serious dislike for her. She seemed to argue and whine about everything. Then in her postgame comments she says the reason they lost is her team had "Jet Lag" while K-State was comfy at home in their beds. It seems she thinks that if K-State did not get a run on USC before they were comfy and adjusted to Bramlage we would never have won. Give me a break! USC is NOT the only team that ever has to play a road game, AND she conviently forgets that every time USC pulled within 10 or so KSU pulled away again.

Gary Blair and a lot of other coaches would have had more to whine about than she did after losing in Bramlage and they took their loses without making public excuses.

Anyway I agree with you. GO BIG 12!!! Let's all kick some out-of-conference butt!
