A lot of interesting articles in the last few days...

"I couldn't tell you who, but it will not be the same starting lineup," Fennelly said. "You earn the right to play here and earn the right to play in front of our fans. We have the best fans in the country and they deserve better than what they got (Sunday). We are going to see who wants to do it."
...
"If they don't want to be held accountable they are not going to play and they might want to seek other opportunities, to be perfectly blunt about it," Fennelly said. "There's a way things are done here, and that's not going to change."

“I just told them all they are on a two-week internship, job interview and we are going to find out over the next two weeks who is committed academically and who is committed to doing things the Iowa State way,” Fennelly said.
...
Fennelly wants to find someone who will give the Cyclones (5-2) a chance to pull out a victory each time they step on the court.

“I want to see people have the internal drive and I want to see someone that can impact winning and impact our program the way it should be impacted,” Fennelly said.

And that started in practice Tuesday.

ISU had Monday off before Fennelly put the players through what he called a practice that would make them understand playing time is earned, not given out. A similar practice was set up for today.

Historically, the Cyclones have made more free throws than their opponents have attempted under Fennelly. This year ISU has taken 131 fouls shots while the opposition has shot 128.

Fennelly said that can’t continue if the Cyclones are to keep winning games and added the problem could disappear if ISU follows the scouting reports, beat opponents down the floor and avoid defensive mismatches.

“It is something that is not easily corrected, but it can be corrected because we’ve done it every single year with teams not as talented or as deep as this team,” Fennelly said. “It’s not something that our players don’t have an understanding because most of them have been through it. Most of them understand that is something we take great pride in.”

And those that figure it out will be the ones who will be given an on-the-job second interview Thursday night.

“We are going to compete and see who wants to do the things that will allow us to have a chance to win,” Fennelly said. “We have to play a certain way and we have to do things a certain way and we are going to find out who is willing to do it.”

"We're 5-2," he said. "We're in good shape, but there are things that we certainly have to clean up. We'll see who feels that way and who on our team thinks the way we played Sunday is unacceptable and wants to do something about it.

“You earn the right to play here and you earn the right to play in front of our fans,” Fennelly said. “And the people who practice the way they are supposed to on Tuesday and Wednesday are going to get that opportunity. It’s not a God-given right. We have the best fans in the country and they deserve better than what they got last night.”

Should fans expect a change in the starting lineup Thursday?

“Absolutely. I couldn’t tell you who, but it will not be the same starting lineup you saw yesterday, and that’s a promise,” Fennelly said.

Although Sunday’s loss was only the Cyclones’ second of the season, both losses were by 20 points or more, including the 83-45 debacle against Stanford.

“We didn’t compete in either game the way we are capable of and that is my responsibility,” Fennelly said. “I have to figure out a way to get them to understand that.”

To do this, Fennelly said the team must refocus on the point he has always stressed — doing things fundamentally, such as limiting turnovers as well as fouls.

“That’s how we’ve won games in the past,” said senior forward Toccara Ross. “The Iowa game we took a step back. It’s something that really disappointed [Fennelly]. It disappointed the fans.”
