Jessica Gerhart, a 6'2" swing player from Iowa has verballed to Nebraska. She has good versatility at 6'2" and plays point guard for her team. Avergaed 23 ppg and 13 rpg in Iowa's smallest class and has been all-state for the past 2 years. Gerhart sounds like a typical MoValley recruit, but skilled big players are few and far between. Has anybody from Iowa seen her play?

In other recruting news, 6'3" Jamey Chapman from Millard West has verballed to Indiana. She choose IU over Nebraska unfortunately. I'm sure she'll do great in the Big 10, but I really wished she would have ended up at NU. With the verbal of Chapman, I think the best talent in Nebraska has been pretty well coralled for this year (Montgomery, Lightfoot, Houghtelling, Chapman, and Horkey). Sadly, Nebraska only signed 1/5 of these players and I'm sure NU's turbulent offseason had something to do with that.

Let's just hope that Connie can protect the borders a little better next year, and is able sign Crystal Howard and Ashlee Schneider...

Actually, Nebraska got two of them. There's nothing saying Houghtelling can't help out the basketball team once volleyball season is over.

As for the next round of recruiting. I'll worry about it next year. Grambling State looms ahead, and if the squad doesn't at least show some results this year, we'll be left with K-mart blue-light specials to choose from next year.

Here is an exerpt from the OWH on Nebraska's recruiting class at this time...

Yori bullish on recruits

Andrea Lightfoot, Jessica Gerhart and Heather Kephart signed Wednesday with the Nebraska women's basketball team, and the Huskers are still waiting for a letter of intent from Kansas City guard Kiera Hardy.

Lightfoot is a 5-foot-8 guard from Omaha Marian, Gerhart is a 6-2 forward from Fenton Sentral in Iowa, and Kephart is a 5-8 guard from Canute, Okla.

"Andrea Lightfoot is the best senior guard in the state of Nebraska," NU Coach Connie Yori said. "It is unusual to see a high school player have a strong mid-range game, and that is where she excels. She is very competitive and has been a winner her whole life."

Kephart is on pace to break Oklahoma's all-time scoring record. Yori called her one of the country's most talented shooters.

Connie seems very pleased with her signees at this time. I think Nebraska has signed some very serviceable players, and I'd bet that they will all make an impact in the program. Yori has a very good point about Lightfoot, her mid-range game and her ability to create her own offense are what sets her apart.

So at this time, Nebraska has signed:
Two high scoring, all-around shooting guards (Kephart & Lightfoot).
A point who I don't know a lot about (Kiera Hardy).
And a versatile small forward/post player from Iowa (Gerhart).
The thing that prevents this from being a very solid recruiting class (considering the off-season events), is the lack of post player. Jamey Chapman would have been real nice, but hopefully the Huskers can find another quality post player.

By the Way, Does anyone from Iowa know what schools are recruiting Jill Martin from Norwalk, Iowa??

According to the Des Moines Register, she was expected to sign with Drake. I don't know who else was recruiting her. I believe ISU was interested, but I don't believe a scholarship was ever offered.

Levy's mentioned on Sibyl's site and is rated top 100 by BlueStar and top 50 by ASGR. However, BlueStar does not list a college and Sibyl has no info on her recruiting. Nosing around on the internet turned nothing up.

Jill Martin from Norwalk had it narrowed down to Creighton, Nebraska and Drake. I know all three schools had home visits and were very interested. She will be a great addition for Drake.
