Long time coming, but KU picked up it's first win in 16+ games last night. (attendance for those keeping count was probably around 400). It was a good chance to see the new faces and several stood out (and who are also mentioned in the article I link below):

1. Tamara Ransberg. Tall, lanky freshman forward, however, was dominant in the rebound department and had a double-double. Good inside game for her since the perimeter seemed to have disappeared. Ran the court well, had easy shots under the basket and didn't play outside of her abilities. A little more meat on her bones and she'd be able to booty some people out of the way under the basket. Look for her to be in the starting lineup

2. Crystal Kemp. Tall, big bodied freshman center. Also rebounded great and took it to the basket often and with ease. She and Ransberg complemented each other under the basket. She's also got a sweet left-handed shot. Big enough to move bodies out of the way with ease. Reminded me of Jaclyn Johnson from KU (if you remember her from a few years back). Willing to fight for it. Will be in starting lineup.

3. Aqua Burras. Guard, junior college transfer, soph. I really, really liked her moves and her poise. She's scrappy and has a decent shot. She played backup guard (because freshman Erica Hallman is injured) but I think it's only a matter of time. One of the other guards we have, junior Leila Menguc, is starter by default as she's the only junior on the team (and thus, one of the few leaders available), but I suspect that if Aqua plays as well as she did last night, she has a shot to take it over. I loved her hustle and all-around court presence. May become my fav player.

Other comments: Blair Waltz, another returning starter from last year, sophmore forward/guard had an off-night last night. Several bad passes and her shot was not on. I suspect she'll pick it up though. Had several other players who came in and saw time, will be role players rather than scorers (McGinest, Roberts, Beachem, Jones).

One final note. The Lauren Ervin thing is official.
