Hope Lady Raider fans don't mind my copying this information from the RP website, I think Marsha Sharp makes some really good points and perhaps, something we fans, need to keep in mind when we post our thoughts and opinions about what we see or hear.

JS: What do you think some of the pros and cons are of sites like Raiderpower.com?

MS: I think that the pros are that it gives our fans a way to stay in touch, and to be in a situation where they can hear some things about basketball. Honestly, from my perspective the cons are the fact that sometimes there's a lot of information on there that's not exactly accurate. That concerns me a little bit because sometimes our players read it, and they may think that something went on in coaches minds, or fans minds that actually never was part of our practice, or maybe a game situation. I don't think there's any question that it was really a negative with one of our recruits. She and her parents read a lot of things that were on the internet last year when we were struggling as a team. I think she chose another university based on some information that was on the web site, that was actually not accurate. That concerns me a little bit. Not just for our program, but for all women's basketball programs. Certainly you never want to be in a situation where you get on there and read negative things about kids on your team, or even members of your coaching staff. We do pay attention to that because our players read it. So we've got to make sure that we're able to calm any fears down, or settle anything from our perspective that they may be worried about or thinking about. I think it was a major factor in some of the things that went on with us last year. We spent a lot of time talking to our players about their involvement in reading that, and what they need to be able to sift through and look at. I'm always glad when there's attention to our sport, but I also want to make sure that it's accurate information, honestly.

Swok, I am really glad that you posted this quote from coach Sharp because I have worried about this very thing myself. Sometimes we get on the boards and start shooting our mouths off about things about which we may feel strongly, but have no real knowledge. We feel 'safe' about spouting off to people in our own little web communities and we don't realize that other people are reading these posts and may be influenced greatly by what we say. It's easy for community members to disregard some of these statements, but when you're a player or a prospect it may not be so easy. Personally, I am going to be a lot more careful about what I post on this and all other message boards.

Catladyok, don't recall seeing your name on HoopScoop before, but that isn't surprising since brain cells seem to be in short supply and disappearing fast from my frontal lobe. Rear one, too.

Anyway, you seem to be the kind of poster girl we like on this site. If I haven't welcomed you before, welcome.

Thanks for the welcome, elfdenmom! Actually, I was 'recruited' by swok34. We met last spring on the ESPN board, started e-mailing each other, and finally got together at one of the Sooner home games. I had complained about all of the trash-talking on some of the other boards, so she told me about this one. And YEAH, this is much more my speed! You guys are really neat. I don't know anywhere nearly as much about basketball as many of you, so forgive my ignorance at times, OK? I usually don't pay much attention to the finer points of the game, but that's because I'm too busy jumping up and down at the games and yelling. (Hmmm...I could probably teach Ref-Heckling 101).

I am a big Sooner fan, but I'm also a Baylor fan, an OSU fan, etc. Just a BIG XII fan in general. So if I get overly enthusiastic about any of these teams, just ignore me, OK?
This conference really blows me away!!!!!

I really hope that recruits reading a message board understand that a fan of another site could be posting it...I have MAJOR concerns for a kid who makes their college decisions because of what they read on a fan board.

That's true. Although you would hope no one would pay any attention to those type of messages, some of the players and/or parents might look at the sites. Good points!
